Olympic gold, less than 4 yrs later IBF Champion, he had been the A side from that day onwards, he believed the hype about him, why shouldn't he, winning and getting massive financial remuneration, however once that big fat L was on his record he mentally derailed, he was lucky to have remained champ as long as he did. AJ of course has ability to make a whole lot more money in the sport, which fair play to him if that is his motivation, but i cannot see him on recent form becoming 'The Champ' again, so i think he needs a few within his team who are not yes men or just earning off the back of AJ, to give him a reality check about his abilities. So to reply to the initial question, i think AJs biggest problem is not knowing when to hang those gloves up, and live the rest of his life in the luxury that his great wealth permits him too
Gifted Olympic gold. He didn't win it. Savon whooped him and arguably lost to Camerelle also. Bought an cheap plastic IBF belt from a BUM named Charles who also got gifted it. Not legit champions. He won belts off an already beaten Wlad who retired after and should have stayed retired in a life and death bout. Usyk quickly slapped them belts off him and so did a little fat mexican on 1 week notice. AJ is a manufactured bum. Fury, Joyce and Wilder run HW and Usyk is a fun little midget who will get beaten this winter.
Besides not having a solid chin? Besides going into a shell when he gets hit (like he did after Franklin hit him in the mouth and bloodied his nose)? Besides not having the mentality of a boxer?
Joshua’s biggest problem is that DAZN is not going to shell out big bucks for another tuneup or low-level fight. Which means he’s got to fight a name next and one who presents a real threat. That’s a problem because he’s got nowhere to hide anymore. The light at the end of his tunnel is attached to a train coming down the track that he’s standing on.
He's not fighting 40 year old men who are shells of their former selves anymore. Even when he was, his lack of ring IQ, footwork, stamina, chin, predictable combos, and head movement have been on display.
Over hyped. Non existent ring IQ, works off of his heels most of the time, very questionable chin, terrible stamina, not mentally strong enough for the game. I read a lot of fans on here talking about the old AJ, where have his skills gone, where is his combination work, his movement, his boxing skills! Come on wake up, smell the coffee! If you can sit and watch his fights, all of his fights again, watch and examine the details, it is clear to see he is not and never has had a natural boxing ability. If you can't see that then you are just one of the casual fans caught up in the hype, you are exactly what Mr Hearn wants you to be. He has been like this for his entire career. The quality in the division has helped him get where he is. He was made to look like an amateur by the Ukrainian, then actually fought like an amateur in his last fight. There are some potential fights in the near future that could potentially end his career very badly. Some of them mentally and physically as well. He was a car crash waiting to happen at his last fight.
It's not any one thing but a combination of things. Essentially it boils down to an identity crisis though. He no longer knows what he wants or needs to be in the division. He's clearly no longer the man, maybe not even third best in the division, and he can't fight as recklessly as he once did because there's always the fear in the back of his mind that he'll walk into another big shot out of the blue. So he's tried to reinvent himself as a more cautious out-boxer, but then Usyk came along and showed he wasn't going to have any success with that style, so now (armchair psychologist alert) I think he's halfway between wanting to be the old juiced up tank of the early days, but lacking the confidence to actually fight in that style anymore. Even with his mind split like this he's still one of the best HWs in the division and would be favoured over anyone not named Usyk, Fury or Joyce right now. But he needs to settle on what he wants to be from here on out and stick to it. No more changing trainers every time you have a loss or a flat performance. No more wild fluctuations in weight for gameplans he doesn't intent to carry out.
He seems to have lost his confidence which is devastating for a top fighter. I don't think his last fight would have helped. He needs a run of KOing decent opposition to get his confidence back and that could take a long time.
There isn’t a problem with Joshua,he did a remarkable job in a short period of time with the skill set and natural attributes he has, then as expected he got found out. Not a fan of them but Re Matchroom did a brilliant job with him in hyping him up,promotion, match making, keeping him fighting at home, tying opposing fighters into rematch clauses in A side deals that greatly benefited Joshua even when he lost, throwing pathetic figures at Wilder to avoid Undisputed fight, refusing far bigger offers from Wilder to avoid Undisputed fight. However Joshua himself knew that he was never going to live upto the hype that was bestowed upon him and you could almost see the relief on his face when Ruiz made him quit for his first loss and then came along Usyk ! The rest is history and still unfolding .
