There it is in a nutshell. I personally think 52/48, the 2% being the respect for being p4pNo1 but like the man says, It's Hatton brings the money. Even Arum says 60/40 is crazy.
Hattons argument is that he DID budge quite significanetly from what the split for the fight should be financially, say 40/60 to a figure of 50/50 that reflected Pacs acheivements and he felt that was more that enough. Thats a pretty big move, its one think us on here saying 5% here, 5% there but we are taling millions of dollars that Pac is getting to acknowlegde is status in this fight. Perhaps "fans" would think Hatton was more reasonable if he held out for the fat end of 55/45 and then "gave in" and accepted 50/50? Seems to me Hatton and his team are getting criticized for being straightforward and saying "No messing about. This is fair, this is what we want" from the start while Pacs team are the ones that verbally agreed the contract as being fair but then had second thoughts.
all this talk of an equal 50/50 split will just give pac more motivation for this fight. we'll probably see a more than usual determined pac. he has to again prove himself to all the cynics who underworth him. hatton should prepare really hard for this fight. he's definitely going to need it.
What is this crap 'he has earned it' got to do with it.Its simple economics, anything in life is only worth what someone will pay for it.I could paint the greatest painting of all time but unless someone pays me something for it,it is worth jack****.
60/40 in favor of Pac at most. In sports, athletes should be rewarded based on their skills and achievements not on their popularity or worse drawing power. Kobe Bryant is one of the highest paid basketball player not because he plays for the Lakers. It's because he has brought championship to his team and is the best in playing the game right now. Michael Schumacher wasn't the highest paid F1 driver because he was driving for Ferrari. It's because he has proven that he is fast on the track and has won WDC in doing so. The very essence of the Olympics reflects such principle... fastest, highest and strongest. In doesn't say the most popular nor top drawer who gets the medals.
He was paid big because he kept the ferrari badge in newspapers and on tv's.The bottom line was it made more money for Ferrari. If your back of the grid you dont get as many sponsors or media coverage.Boxers are not selling a product they are selling themselves,it is a popularity contest.
It makes me chuckle when people give it this "Hatton better watch out, Pac will be more motivated now" line. Like he got be being P4P#1 by not giving 100% or finding it hard to motivate himself...atsch "David Diaz seems like a nice guy, I'll punish him for 9 rounds and then if he's lucky not spit on him after the KO"
This is ******. Clearly Ricky brings more to the table, sells more PPV buys cause of his support in England and is basically garaunteed to double the price of tickets because of the added demand from all his travelling fans. Pac's great but he could never pull 350 buys aagainst a bum like Baldomir so why he thinks he can go actingly like the big money fighter against Ricky is absurd.
I agree but here's a scenario for you. A fighter, undefeated 40-0, brilliant, 80% KO ratio, ATG material and Champion. Now for debate purpose he fights Hatton in the USA/uk, (Pick your venue). Now, this fighter comes from Uganda. It's a very simplistic argument, take time if you wish to add other variables but it doesn't change the fact.... Uganda/Africa is getting little or no buys. Hatton against a fighter of that calibre is pulling 500-800k buys, maybe more. Who deserves the lions share?
Anyone saying pac should get more cause of achievements or something is creating there own paradime to support their boy and isn't being rational or realistic. What fighters get pay comes down to how much money they bring in. Its simply supply and demand.
Offering someone $11m instead of $12m can often push a man over the edge.Who knows what Pac will do when he gets in the ring.
Exaclty! And its pretty funny how often that is the case. Years from know the Manny Pacquiao box set will probably be worth a lot more then the Ricky Hatton box set. But right now a ticket to a hatton fight goes for a lot more. So sorry vanny but the master pieces you paint ain't worth what they should be.
