What is ring IQ?

Mayweather rarely gets caught with anything significant but when he does he doesn't get hit with it again.

 

A high ring IQ? That would be a boxer who you can tell thinks in the ring. One who sets traps, adapts, makes adjustments. A good example would be Ibeaubuchi in his fight with Chris Byrd. He was out of shape for the Chris Byrd fight. He couldn't lay a hand on him early in the fight. Yet he started adjusting, timing Byrd up, and setting traps. That is a thinker. That showed Ring IQ. Or in his fight against Tua. Ike knew that Tua's best weapon was the big left hook, so he carried his right hand high to block it. That shows Ring IQ.

Guillermo Rigondeaux is another example of a boxer with a high ring IQ.

Ehhhh. Majority of the time yes, but he has been prone to get hit with some specific punches but it's just having the talents/qualities needed to land them.

Ike had a great trainer in Curtis Cokes When Ike walked into Curtis Home of Champions gym & declared he'd come to Texas to be World Heavyweight Champion he was a crude brawler
Curtis molded him into an almost perfect boxer puncher. In my opinion he would have been the champion to follow Lennox Lewis
He was only beaten once & that was in the Golden Gloves Finals A friend of mine covered the finals for the Boxing Times & he said it was a bum decision Ike won that fight too
What a tragedy he ever called that hooker in Vegas she did what no fighter had been able to do she destroyed his career

Mayweather sets a lot of traps, Pacquiao didn't fall for many of them but because he was focusing on avoiding being hit, which he was quite successful at, he failed to land much of his own so it's kinda a doubled edged sword.

Example Roberto Duran Vs Davey Moore. Davey more was the bigger and stronger of the two. But Duran over ring IQ was too much for Moores Physical attributes to over come. Duran would beat him to the punch despite being older and slower. Duran would beat Moore up on this inside despite being the smaller man. Make Davey more comment to punches when he shouldn't have. Make More throw punches when he did want too. Duran also knew questionable tactic s he could get away with in plain site and how to hide dirty tactic from the ref. In short it was Durans World in that ring that night .. That ring IQ! Watch that fight and it will all be clear.
