Running is rapidly dancing about on the outside refusing to engage. True runners rarely win any fights because they never take the opportunities to engage with their opponents. Someone like Dirrell in the Froch fight or Scott in the Ortiz fight are what I'd call runners. What Mayweather did wasn't close to running. He stayed in the pocket and made fighters miss then countered them. Not a huge fan of his general style but I'm not going to accuse him of doing something he wasn't.
Boxers fight in a squared circle measuring 16 - 20+ feet, which means the boxing authorities make it obvious that it is not necessary to stand toe to toe in a phone booth fight if fighter so chooses, the art of hitting without being hit sounds a good one to me (wish i followed that mantra when i boxed), if you have the fitness and boxing skillset to be fleet of foot and still build up the points then all plaudits to them, it is up to the sluggers to prevent these on your bike merchants from prevailing. As Joe Louis said of his opponent Billy Conn, "He can run but he can't hide".
