I believe modern judges are discouraged from scoring even rounds. So what is your argument in favour of and opposing scoring 10-10 rounds?

Some rounds are so close that scoring 10-10 is logical. I am not even sure how this became controversial in the first place. I think refusing to score any round even causes more harm than good. It should not be overused, but sometimes it is the appropriate choice.

I agree. I have no issue with even rounds as long as it isn't abused. When I see scores of 149-148, well, that's either a lazy judge, an indecisive judge or a judge showing partiality. In any of those instances, he has no business ringside with a pen. I also take issue with a person saying, 'In an even round I try to find something one fighter did better.' Well one's as bad as the other, because when you are 'trying to find', you may as well be saying I'm flipping a coin. When you have to 'try to find' than it isn't overt and you are penalizing one of the fighters. If it's an even round, it should be obvious to the experienced or competent or unbiased judge.

If Boxing is supposed to be a fight, you can´t win a round without landing a good hit... otherwise this is not a fight.

It is the dumbest thing ever to force judges to score the round to someone.. Even rounds should be scored even ! How controversial is that ?
It probably has something to do with the american way to view sports, with the draw being thought as a bad thing...

It is unfair the way Boxing is scored today, and makes no sense. A guy can make a career in fist fighting not really landing punches...

There’s a 2 point swing if it’s that close which is too big in the overall picture. As in you weren’t certain fighter A beat fighter B that round, yet give him the round….when fighter B may have been the one who really won the round. If no evens are allowed this is an issue

Maybe depends on how one views aggression and trying to instigate action, there could be an even round, but if one fighter is displaying more effort at dominating and the other guy is all defense, the offensive effort could be worth a point up

Especially in America it is very rare to see judges give rounds 10 - 10. I think it is wrong not to give rounds even regardless, it happens sometimes to see that first round in which nothing happens, the two boxers study each other, throw a couple of jabs each and that's it, and why not give a round like that 10 - 10? And it is not only the initial round that can seem even. Do the rules allow you to give rounds 10 - 10? Yes, and therefore there is no reason not to give them, this is my opinion.

the only counter argument i can think of is that 10-10 rounds might not reward one guy for being on the front foot aggressor. Hence, both men would be incentivized to fight defensively.

I believe it would solve many of the puzzling decisions we have. The 10 point must system is not used correctly. There are many rounds that there isnt enough to warrant giving it to either fighter.

If a judge gives basically even rounds to one boxer or the other than naturally the next round a fighter wins clearly with no knockdowns cant also be 10-9. Then your card is skewed.

There's no way to objectively score an even round. The judges can't count how many punches were thrown & landed by each fighter, nor can they tell who's punch did more damage in an even round. Unfortunately, it's up for interpretation.

What you said is certainly reasonable but we are talking about something (giving a round 10 - 10) that the rules do not prohibit, and for this reason I think that a draw round can be given without any problems.

Aggression is one of the factors (along with ring generalship, defense, clean and heavy punches) with which the round is judged, yes, but then each boxer has his own style. Aggression is not enough if the other boxer defends himself well and lands the cleanest punches (Maidana - Mayweather).

In the end I don't think it's a problem to give rounds 10 - 10, perhaps instead I would evaluate whether to introduce 0.5 for those rounds that can be won by little (9.5 - 9).

If a round is even but one guy is making the fight he gets the round if I am scoring it.

I personally think 10-10 rounds should be a thing. Not having them could lead to unfair outcomes. Let's say you have a 5 round fight, where 3 are even and 2 are heavily in favour of Fighter A. Fighter B could still win that fight if a judge is forced to award even rounds to somebody and Fighter B gets all three rounds that were even.

Yes, the rules are these now but you can always change them if you want and you think that things will be better that way. Once upon a time, rounds were assigned and at the end you counted who had won the most, right? (8 - 7 or 10 - 5 for example)

Well, I think that giving 0.5 can be discussed, clearly even in that case I would still leave it possible to give the round equal 10 - 10 which I think is not wrong.
