He may have lost to Pryor but who is the best light welterweight Arguello could have realistically beaten?

Best 140 fighters I would favor Arguello over would be Kostya Tszyu, Buddy McGirt, Meldrick Taylor, Hector Camacho, Tim Bradley. Arguello against guys like Manny Pacquiao, Julio Cesar Chavez, Antonio Cervantes, Miguel Cotto are 50/50 fight for me.

Well, he certainly would have beaten any other 140 pounder in the world that night.

He could have beaten Chavez. Not saying he definitely would have but I think it’s a great fight at that weight (but it’s a better fight at 130 and 135).

Yeah Pryor, Benitez and Mayweather Jr. are the 3 guys i would favour heavily over Arguello at 140 but other than those 2, i think he would have a shot vs most guys at that weight.

Cervantes would be a fascinating match.

There was a lot to like about Arguello's challenge of Pryor. He left it all in the ring that night. On the flipside he was hit an awful lot albeit by an unorthodox fighter.
