won't argue about srr coz we all see it.

lamotta wasn't his old self by that fight so i can't view it as the best win ever.

Off the top of my head I would say Leonard-Hearns and Robinson-LaMotta

Roberto Duran vs Esteban DeJesus III 1978, IMO Duran's best fight ever.

    Hi Guys.
Not sure if this fits the criteria : Armstrong / Ross.
From what I have read Ross was still seen as great fighter in 38 and was on a 22 fight winning streak including Garcia x2 and McLarnin, Armstrong despite being FW champ looked to be taking on more than he could handle, in the wellscholed and durable multi champ that was Ross, in the event Henry gave Ross a through 15 round beating, it was only the courage and fighting spirit that stopped Ross being stopped or KOd, and the torch was passed to an even greater fighter.
    stay safe guys, chat soon.
    Mike.

Holyfields performance against Tyson in the first fight was Epic! That's easily in my top 5 list of my favorite fights to watch.

Biased Louis fan here but I love Joe’s performance vs Max Baer. It provided for almost a bit of everything that Louis possessed in his vast arsenal. Being < 4 rounds it’s also a convenient fight to revisit and watch in whole.

Interesting no one mentioned Ali-Liston 1 .. for a 22 year old kid to come into that ring and take Sonny apart was something … I also love Tito over Vargas ..

Curious, why do you think Baer is Louis best performance (assuming it, of course)?

I'm recently researching Louis career so i can study him and integrate his tricks into my boxing style (which actually fit in, and have made me a better fighter, thank you Louis!) i've examined Schmeling 2 alongside Baer and Schmeling 2 Louis just looks the better version to me

What did Louis do in Baer that made you awe in a way Schmeling II couldn't? thank you if you do respond.

    Honorable mention to
Buddy McGirt outboxing and dropping champion Simon Brown.

Also Floyd Mayeather's paintjob against Chico Corrales.

    No drama.

In broad terms I see an optimally energised Louis - as opposed to to the somewhat more economical fighter he became.

His footwork was actually nimble and not at all slow. His blocking, parrying, slipping etc. were highly effective and on several occasions, with Baer in pursuit he expertly extricated himself from corners as well as clouting Max on the way out.

    Masterful boxing.

I could say more but that’s just a brief overview.

The second Schmeling fight was certainly a great performance but the catch 22 is that Joe jumped on Schmeling so quickly for the KO, there wasn’t sufficient duration for Joe to show off all his wares over a reasonable number of rounds.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that Joe didn’t hold the same weaponry in potential for later display IF Schmeling had somehow lasted several rounds longer than he did last - but of course, Joe had extreme revenge on his mind ever since the first fight and, without fear or favour, he went in all guns blazing.

Yeah, I try to emulate Louis also when I’m mucking around on my heavy bag, something to at least strive for.

If you haven’t seen them already, you might like this series of videos based on Joe Louis’ book How To Box. I think there at least 10 parts to the series all up. I’ve linked one below: -

Probably one of Lomachenko's fights. Maybe the one where he made Rigondeux quit.

Even though Sonny came into that fight way overconfident with lackluster preparation that doesn't diminish Ali's dazzling performance! His fluid movement, timing, reflexes, and stinging punches were a tour de force!!
