What is the best case that can be made for Woods as the best opponent for Calzaghe?

    ...in Spring 2008?

Please make your case for Clinton Woods!:good

By "best opponent" I mean "the most dangerous, the one asking the most questions, the one most likely to win"

He's not the most dangerous, but he is much more dangerous than a 43 year old, shot Hopkins, and his style will give Joe a bit of trouble also.

One plus, this fight can easily be made, is a good name for Joe's resume also as Woods is a very solid titlist and high ranking LHW with some good feathers in his cap to boot.

Once again, this would have more to do with money and fear of flying than anything. Calzaghe-Woods is the biggest fight that could be made with Joe in the UK. No way are the other money guys travelling over there - Hopkins, Tarver and Jones all have too much ego for that. Woods is the #1 ranked LHW by many at the moment, and he has enough power to hurt Joe if he can land consistently. That said, the argument isn't that he's the most dangerous.

Let us not concentrate on how easy the fight could be made or whether it would be in the UK or anything like that - what is the best case for Woods being the most dangerous opponent for Joe - the one asking most questions...

Well...and I'm reaching a bit here...He's brave, tough, very experienced with a heck of a chin, nice handspeed, solid dig and a natural lightheavy. He's my second choice at that weight as Jones is shot and Hopkins is faded. Also its a local domestic derby.

    Dawson is my prefered opponent.

He looked AWFUL against the little fat man Winky who in turn looked even worse than him.
Maybe it was a one off bad day at the office, but at the age of 43....:blood

he is shot cos he lost 2 of his last 4 fights and 7 of his last 8 fights have gone the distance, with his one ko being against a much lighter man in oscar.

a fight with woods does nothin for calzaghe's legacy, it would be like any routine name he beat in his 21 defences barring it being at another weight.

he may as well fight hopkins and give him a proper lesson in hopkins backyard.

Anyone think Zoslt Erdei would be a better opponent for Calzaghe, should Hopkins fight not happen?

Erdei is the Undefeated Lineal World LightHeavyWeight Champion. DM beat Virgil Hill, Gonzales beat a shot DM, Zsolt beat Gonzales one-sidedly. But then Zoslt hasnt fought any real competition.

It would seem a more impressive win on Calzaghes record, defeating an undefeated Lineal World Champion.
