What is the best loss of all time?

I ****ing knew that was gunna get said before i clicked the thread, and it'll be said another dozen times. That fight was a clear, relaxed win for Hagler.

Best loss was Barrera's effort in Barrera v Morales I

Vitali Klitchsko v Lennox Lewis has an amazing effect for some people.

Jim Corbett v James Jeffries should have enhanced Corbett's legacy but probably hasnt.

Ali vs Frazier maybe.

But i really think that if you have to lose a fight, the greatest way of all time to lose a fight would have to be Fitzsimmons v Sharkey. That quite rightfully enhanced Fitzys reputation.

I would also have to say Vitali's loss to Lennox Lewis. Its amazing how so many people actually count it as a win for Vitali and that somehow the cuts were not caused by Lewis but led to the fight stoppage. Amazing really.
Id also say several of Arturro Gatti's fights. He would lose to mid level guys like Ivan Robinson and Angel Manfredy, and he could comeback and still sell out Atlantic City.

Tyson LKO10 & LTKO11 & KO8 & LKO4 & LTKO6 versus Buster, Holy, Lewis, Danny Williams and Kev McBride - as in everyone he proved he had tremendous ability to absord heavy punishment from big heavyweights for a sustained period - not something we got to see proof of in his hayday when he was knocking everyone of like bowling pins before they could really touch him so in one way it strengthened his legacy

 

As much as I love Duran, and as smart as he boxed, I have to say 90% of his effort was geared towards survival and lasting the distance. Hardly a courageous effort IMO.

Of all time? I love the oft quoted line about the FOTC that says, "The knockdown made Frazier a champion. Getting up made Ali a legend."

 

Marco Antonio Barrera putting on a stupendous performance in a battle for the ages against arch-rival and fellow Mexican, Erik Morales.

Goodness knows how he felt when he heard the decision...
