One forgot about is Hatton-Urango. Ricky was punch-perfect for the first six rounds and moved excellently, using all sorts of angles in all sorts of ways.

Fantastic win he was bought in on the recommendation of Mickey Duff and Don King felt he had pulled a fast one on him.

He fell out with Duff for a while because of this fight.Laing pulled off a great win and went missing for a year!

Duran admitted he deserved to lose the fight,words that he wouldn't of said often.

Very true my friend. Being considered the complete no hoper like Mr Honeyghan was and then beating the undisputed welterweight champion Mr Curry who was a superstar and considered the future of boxing in such a brutal and conclusive fashion that Mr Curry was never the same fighter again is the best performance in America by a British fighter so far.

 

Very true my friend. The great Duran seldom did give the praises to his opponents but he did concede that Mr Laing deserved to win. The funny haired Mr King did fall out with Mr Duff but he remembered that Mr Duff was his friend in time to try and get a piece of John Mugabi.

 

No he wasnt. Whats the matter Chris. Are you gutted that your half dozen novice wins in the USA arent considered the greatest performances of a British fighter in America. Had you decided to fight some of the elite Americans around at the time in America you would have certainly featured prominently in this conversation but you chose not to so your not. I always cheered for you and you were indeed a magnificent champion but I guess post career regret is an emotion even our greatest fighters experience no matter how brilliant and successful they were.

 

Urango wasnt anywhere near as dominant a champion as Curry was. Curry was considered a p4p elite champion at the time of Honeyghans demolition. In fact Urango was JWW champion and Ricky was dropping back down to JWW having beat Collazo to win his WW title. Ricky was the favourite in the Urango fight. And yes Ricky fought brilliantly but Honeyghan punched Curry to a standstill in six rounds whereas Ricky went to full twelve with Juan.

 

fair point, beating prime benny leonard in his hometown is the best result by a british boxer in america tho (probably anywhere).

on film i'll take honeygan just over laing because it wasn't a home fight for duran either and duran's head wasn't in the game at that time(not to take anything away from beating an atg, i just think curry offered a little more on the night)

moran nelson was a fair shout too, i'm not that impressed by nelson on film tho.
