There is no best.... It all depends on how you fight.

But learn from the best. For example

I learn defense from mayweather, James toney, pernell Whitaker, Bernard Hopkins, Tyson

I emulate combos and moves from almost everybody. Try to get as much punches and combos in your arsenal.

    For example.

I would learn how to counter in every way. There's a lot, watch tapes.

Learn how to get into someone's defense even when they are fully guarded. Go to body and head. Mike Tyson's signature move right hook to the body and uppercut to the head works very well.

Try to learn every way into blocking and slipping and bobbing and weaving and ducking and moving and reacting.

A huge part of defense is also foot work. Watch these Olympic gold medalists and see how they can just throw the quickest combo and move away. Watch rigondeaux never stay still. I mean like NEVER. Watch him train this guy is moving non stop even after he punches.

Watch the pros train. Get the slip line and continuously go at it while you throw your combos. Tell your trainer to train defense. Spar people and tell him you won't hit back and just defend defend defend.

Remember the name of the game is to hit and not get hit. Hope this helped.

It depends on the offensive style of your opponent.

Generally, better slip shots than block, so your hands are ready to counter
