Would it be Mayweather and Toney's style? Or would it be Joshua Clottey's style? Or if not, which other styles for someone who is an Amateur boxer?

Joshua Clottey type defense gets you punched more than one would think.

If you're an amateur boxer you don't want to be using a mayweather/toney type defense. You want to get an effective shell like Clottey or Wright.

    Mayweather

    Drastically reduced area to hit

shoulder coverage of left side of chin

    body protected by arm

Mayweathers head movement isn't that great however and neither is his body movement (Naz for that shizzle)

Depends on your stong points as a fighter...Some would be effective with the high guard type and some will be effective.

If I had to choose one, I would go with the Winky, AA, Clottey type of defense to limit the amout of punishment!

Box off the back foot. Keep distance, Jab, jab and jab some more. Give angles as not to present a easy target.
The Mayweather/Toney aproch is good on the inside. However it helps to also be really athletic.

Don't know why, but I've never liked going more defense then I should have even if it I get hit less I always hated it. I've always like counter and boxer puncher styles.:bbb

Learn from the best defensive fighter in the history of boxing Floyd Mayweather Jr. He is not as slick as he was 140 and down where he combines amazing footwork, ducks, rolls, slips, parries, fast upperbody movements, counters, just an apply everything almost by instinct/skill that he has been doing for years. Watch his fights in those weight class and he was damn near impossible to hit. It is really like a rare occurance when he gets hit.

Floyd these days has slowen down quite a bit and uses majority conventional/philly to a smother clinch and to heavy counter approach.
