Well I have a fight scheduled for September against a guy who is said to be a heavy handed fighter. I can throw power shots, be elusive, be fast do any of it really. Do any of you have any tips on what you have done when facing power?

Don't trade with him, get in and get out. Most likely you can't "kick his ass" so try to win the match if that makes sense. Just go for points

Sounds like a plan. I was thinking sort of in and out with hard, fast shots, not trading.

Machine gun jab, keep him off balance so he cant set himself.

    Keep it simple.

It depends on how he's tryin to fight you. He might be a boxer puncher, or a counterpuncher.

Just cuz he's got power doesn't mean he's just gonna come after you with his chin in the air throwin hayemakers.

    - Fight him outside, stay far away from the power. Use lots of angles
    - Fight him inside. Don't give him room to punch. Smother him. Clinch a lot.

Clinch alot? Surely get the punches in on the inside is better. With the not giving room to punch then inside fighting is good. I will just train never to run out of gas, not to clinch him.

Keep moving so he won't be able to plant his feet to generate the power in his shots.
Keep your guard nice and tight too. Good luck.

That's the plan. Headmovement and moving out of the way of big shots should help tire him out. Thanks

Why are you asking anyone but the person training you for the fight?

Is this a pro fight? Seems unusual for an amateur fight to be schedueled three months in advance.

Your best bet is not to play his game, as everyone else has said keep a tight guard and use hit and move tactis against him, don't stand still and trade. Some of these big hitters lack good technical skills so hopefully he shouldn't be tooo hard to outpoint.

speed, power, movement, defense, etc. can all be controlled with a jab.

He can't hurt cha if he can't hit cha. Speed is key. Speedy footwork, speedy punches, speedy defence... whatever you do, just make it fast.

  14. Power on its own doesn't mean much so obviously jab and don't be on the receiving end. It's mostly psychological though. Losing against power is letting them control you mentally with their power. Obvious- move around, have a plan and work to your strength, attack his weakness but don't let the shots get in your head it's just pain nothing else. One of his goals will be to see if you can handle the heat.
