Schmeling vs. Neusel in 1934...biggest attendance for a fight in Europa ever...102,000 people at Sandbahn, Hamburg-Lokstedt...

Benn vs Eubank was probably bigger than Lewis vs Bruno.

Probably because a lot of people didn't consider Lewis to be British and knew deep down what the outcome would be. It was undoubtedly the best performance of Bruno's career, eclipsing his schoolong of Bonecrusher Smith (despite losing!), the first half of the Witherspoon fight and his title winning show against McCall.

Benn vs Eubank was massive because everyone wanted Eubank beaten, and who better (in theory) to do it. Additonally there was plenty of reason to like and dislike each of them.

  7. It's gotta be Eubank v Benn II

Yea Benn Eubank 2 was huge, before the fight they both had "An audience with..." by Jonathan Ross quality stuff. Sadly now the only character left in british boxing seems to be David Haye...

Yeah Benn-Eubank..that was a national event.

Hatton-Khan is the only match up now that could come close in terms of public interest.

Eubank-Benn. Khan-Hatton will be huge when Khan becomes 140lb champ.

hmmmmmm.....maybe someone from the irish thread will answer this, coz I can't think of any really big domestic match ups that actually happened.
