For What Is Worth. And I happen to agree as well. Except for Tunney which I don't think was as ring worn as Archie and Ezz (not that it helps Dempsey any).

My biggest criticism is that he is ugly to watch. He's a lot like Carlos Monzon in that he was obviously very effective and what he had he had a lot of, power, great chin and relentless stamina. But he faced older faded opponents many of whom came up on weight to face him. But watching him throw some of those ugly wide arcing punches, it left me scratching my head as to how he wasn't getting caught. Most boxing coaches would put a stop to that very quickly. But hell, it worked for him.

What I find troubling is Marciano's boosters referring to Marciano's win over Bill Wilson as a one round ko thereby implying," see he had no trouble koing big men"..When the truth is the guy was stopped on a bad cut eye before he had even warmed up.This proves to me the necessity and validity of being accurate about applying the distinctions between a tko and a ko,if one does this there can be no room for such " interpretation" or"adjustment". As we know, a ko is a knockout where one man is knocked out of time for ten seconds A tko is a technical knockout which may be caused by several things for example an injury or a fighter taking unanswered punches without replying, the fighter so stopped might not be in danger of being ko'd ,he may just be palpably out classed.eg the Holmes Cobb fight could have been reasonably stopped on the grounds that Cobb was being systemantically beaten without a chance of winning the fight. Yet Cobb was never in danger of being ko'd.
Ditto the Vitali v Briggs fight.
Therefore I think the difference between a Ko and a TKo is very important and my insistence on using the correct terms where they apply is not an example of pedantry , but a desire to be factual.

ps Archie Moore in a taped interview said that when he fought Marciano his legs were gone.,and that he was getting by on skill and guts. Doesn't sound like a fighter in his prime. Moore also claimed to be 39 ,his Mother said he was 2 years older.
I contend ,[whatever the results he was getting,]that no fighter is prime at 39/41 years old.

The biggest mark against him is the lack of prime quality heavyweights around in his era. His best opponents were older, smallish guys. He did beat the best they could muster up to face him, almost always decisively, and never avoided anyone, so he did all that could reasonably be asked of him.

I wonder if McVey wags a finger if Foreman's TKO win over Frazier is referred to as a KO?

    My guess is no.

The issue I have with the Rock is with his dirty tactics.

The first complete Marciano fight I watched was the ****ell fight.

    It sickened me.

Of course you are right on this TKO/KO business, including the exceptions you named.

But some simply can't see the larger picture.

A tko is a tko it is NOT a knockout, no matter whom-ever is involved..

If Joe Frazier ,God Rest Him. was still around you would be the first in the queue for f*ll*tio, and a*se licking.
You've never made a thread worth reading here, and you never will.
You're just a pathetic fan boy. The General Forum awaits you!:hi:

His biggest knock is not beating a top ten ranked SHW.

I believe Marciano was afraid of no man and would have fought who ever was around.
It isn't his fault the,Liston's ,Foreman's ,Lewis's ,Bowe's, Klits, whom so ever weren't in his era.

However I do believe he was fortunate they weren't .:think

Marciano fought and beat everyone they put in front of him...that's all you can ask.
