There was a study of are men better at throwing than women? The study came back that men were generally better at throwing, so was this due to strength, evolution etc? Well the reason was quite obvious. Men generally played more throwing games with balls when they were boys than the females did, they also were the hunters that threw spheres etc. Basically it came down to technique, then the laws f=ma would also come to play.

When it comes to punching. I believe it's the same. Men generally had more fist fights than women. You watch the general women fight, their punching technique suck, it's why we came up with the term cat fight when it came to women. This plays a huge part in punching power as technique plays a huge part, that's why a man of the same size as the women generally hits harder. When it comes to size of course f=ma comes into it.

Because heavyweights developed the best punching technique in boxing, which allows them to punch hard as a truck. Just ask Deontay Wilder.

    Testosterone

In humans and most other vertebrates, testosterone is secreted primarily by thetesticles of males and, to a lesser extent, theovaries of females. Small amounts are also secreted by the adrenal glands. On average, in adult males, levels of testosterone are about 7–8 times as great as in adult females.[7] As the metabolic consumption of testosterone in males is greater, the daily production is about 20 times greater in men.[8][9] Females are also more sensitive to the hormone

That one actually is biology. Thousands of years of adaptation. We fought the cave bears and climbed the banana trees.

They have more bodyweight to put into fast whirling motion. It is entirely possible for a guy who weighs less to hit as hard or harder based upon technique. Most fighters don't put their entire body into the punch like say Jack Dempsey did.

    They don't hit harder proportionately.

Heavyweights hit like a truck and that's it. Having trained with competitors from all weight classes there's a huge difference. Even those heavyweight-ish guys who throw windmill punches or have horrible technique still hit hard if they connect. Sometimes you have no idea what the hell hit you. I often spar with some tall guy who is a natural lefty but boxes in orthodox, he doesn't have a particularly good technique at all but when he starts hitting you with a jab it hurts more than the most powerful punches of lighter weight boxers.

A lot of people who don't train boxing look at modern super HWs and think they're clumsy and non-technical and stiff and think that the smaller HWs from old time would beat them while in reality they would likely be discouraged by sheer power.

I think the reason why (trained) women hit like **** compared to (trained) men is because fast twitch muscles play a big role in punching power as well. You also need to have strong lats and shoulders. All boxers have really developed lats.
