Please read the title. This is about heavyweight title fights.

The amount of really good body shots landed in heavyweight title fights in recent memory is an exceedingly thin list. Fury banged Wilder's skinny frame surprisingly well in the rematch, even scoring an arguable knockdown, if I remember right.

Right hand wasn't it? Still, if we allowed Lt Hvy's to fight middles, we shouldn't at all be surprised to see some good stoppages.

That shot would have hurt any heavyweight, and a few more of them would sap the legs of any super heavyweight, Tyson would make AJ gas with body shots and Spinks hit harder than any middleweight in history, I don`t think any middleweight could have taken the shots that knocked Cooney out.

Ah geez...its an analogy Mark. All bodyshots hurt if they land.... Tyson's right hand bodyshot (floating rib from memory) hurt Spinks to the degree it did because Spinks was the smaller man. He can body-build himself up to fight Holmes and Tyson, even take steroids to do so, but his bone structure (ribs) and cartridge (between each rib) doesn't get more robust in the process.

Correct, but it doesn't mean it'd stop them....and since he wasn't stopping Neilsen with bodyshots, maybe the weak link was Spinks?
Probably, but how often do you see Super Hvy's taking a dedicated body attack. Its a risky proposition for the bodypuncher.
    Only if he landed them.
You cannot possibly know that. I'm confident its not true anyway.
We can't know one way or the other. Boxing's full of physical freaks, and then there's the crazy ones. Never say never as it only takes one to invalidate the 'any'.

Re. Cooney, he wasn't in a good place when that fight occurred; that fight speaks more to the psychological aspects of the sport and Cooney's mind than Spinks' power. Cooney took a lot of clean shots - I don't think Spinks' power really carried up to Hvy. It goes to my point that weight classes exist for a reason....and Tyson shouldn't get as much credit as he does for feasting on ex-Lt Hvy and cruisers, or dropping little Spinks (smaller man, out of the ring for over a year, ostensibly retired etc). Ditto Hopkins for landing a bodyshot on a welterweight fighting at middle. He's very lucky he did. Anyway, Cooney, who was always brutally honest about himself, gives a pretty good account that you might want to track down about the Spinks fight.

Tyson was far better at his peak than when he fought Nielson, look how many counter hooks Povetkin caught AJ with, M.Tyson had far more power than Fury has and could easily work Fury`s body without worrying about counters, Wilder has a this waist and his body would be destroyed by Tyson who has far better head movement than Wilder has.

Sure, but do you think he landed a harder bodyshot on Spinks than any of those many (stacks!) he landed on Brian Nielsen? Pretty sure Tyson himself said he punched harder when older (as expected, we get naturally stronger as we age) so its pretty likely he hit Neilsen harder to the body, and definitely more often, than he hit Spinks.

So what do you think explains that?

No Tyson`s punch mechanics swere far better under Rooney and his body wa in it`s prime, he did land really hard body shots on Ruddock though three years after the Spinks fight and in the rematch afgainst Ruddock.
