it was not a huge shock but in the era it was a huge boost to uk boxing and set the stall for a big revival on the world stage in the next few years

john h stracey beating naploes in his hometown mexico city.
sadly it was not shown live , i watched it on itv world of sport on a saturday afternoon.

sean makes a good shout; I think Buchanan/Laguna also deserves a mention. Honeyghan/Curry probably is the #1, but the 'Raggamuffin' has another sensational 'away' victory against the future multi world title holder Gianfranco Rosi...

Fury's win is just much better for me. Against a more experienced, more proven fighter for the biggest prize in boxing.

Honeyghan against Curry for me. Curry was 25-0 and, at the time, was considered to be in the top 5 pound for pound by rhe boxing cognoscenti. Precious few, if anyone at all, gave the Ragamuffin Man any hope of springing the upset.

The raggmuffin man was a total no hoper against the cobra, and he gave him a beating.

I'm extremely impressed with what Fury did, but i'll have to go with Honeyghan.

But Wladimir was top 5 p4p 64-3 and not many gave Fury a chance either.

honeyghans win was most probably the best as curry was ranked number 1 p4p
by ring magazine at the time .

i watched honeyghan in a great fight with sylvester mittee for i think the british and commonwealth title look great and then fight a title eliminator against
horace schufford i think his name was {might be pulling out the wrong name its from memory} he was a crab like style black american and honeyghan did a number on him koing him in 8 again from memory with a single shot.
he was on fire at this point

even the previews said he was dangerous for curry.

then the fight in a small hall evening posh diners with little atmosphere and i suspect the crowd had little knowledge of boxing as they did not really appreciate what was going on in front of them with honeyghan doing a number on curry.

Curry was the sharpest puncher I'd ever seen. Way more of a young ultra talent than jab and grab Wlad.

One for me is Colin Jones V Milton McCrory, he got a draw but imo he should have won that.

Martin Murray vs Sergio Martinez should have been up there had he not got robbed. Ppl make excuses after the fight but the fact is Martinez was p4p top 3 at the time and Murray beat the **** out of him in buenos aires in a excellent performance and hasnt really had the credit from it cause of the corrupt judging

He was seen as the best fighter in the world regardless of weight. Or ‘P4P 1’! It’s not real though.

And he was severely weight-drained on the night v Lloyd.

P4P isn’t real. Martinez was not one of the three best boxers, as shown in the Murray fight. He wasn’t nowhere remotely close.
