I don't think Ali is a good example, this is not fat: This content is protected He looks like a decent weight, not drained, natural for his age and body type.
Here is someone with ideal physique for a Heavyweight boxer. David Price Look how Price rocks Mcdermott with 3 big knock downs in 73 seconds and wins by Ko for the British Heavyweight title. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MDISTHuwsw[/ame]
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myHyjOAM9Wg[/ame] Audley Harrison has the ideal physique and tools needed but he has never adapted from the amatuer boxing to the sport of professional boxing. So this is what happend Sprott sneaked in a perfect shot on Audley that woulda dropped a horse
Check out Butterbean..nah j/k. I say look at a Dawson, Ward, Chalzaghe, Mayweather, Pacquiao, Klitscho, Rigo, all depending on the weight. Don't want to say there is a "perfect physique" but these are all good examples of what might be considered a "close to perfect boxing physique."
I think HW's about about 6'7 240-250 is the new prototype for the elite level of Heavyweight boxing. Here is David Price destroying Sam Sexton for the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight titles. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL2NiNR0HKo&feature=relmfu[/ame]
JMM / Andre Ward / Mayweather all have incredible physique. Know why? They never get tired. They never get "leg cramps" or any other excuse. Boxers should rarely, if ever, approach free weights. All that bulk takes away from conditioning (an extreme example is Pascal) and reduces speed. Conditioning and Toning are far superior than muscle mass. And, for the record, prime Tyson was conditioned like crazy in addition to his muscle mass. He ate, slept, and breathed boxing while under his original trainer. Most boxers don't get away with Tyson's physique. Most boxers have a JMM/Ward/Mayweather type physique (the good ones at least).
That was the why Tyson was though when he was 14 he weighed like 180 pounds. I know what you mean though.
He was 216 at foreman Until Holmes that was his last time under 220 lbs... But in 62 (when he was 20) he could still make 195 lbs. If he wanted to fight at a lighter weight he could have. (lower weight, not lower weight division) In 66 he could still get to 201.5 lbs. If he would be active today, Ali would probably be in the cruiserweight division. (Haye got in the ring at cruiser around 210 lbs so it shouldn't be too hard)
WTF You realize there was no cruiserweight back then right ? Your sayin Ali could make Light HeavyWeight 175 lbs.
I said lower weight, not lower weight division... Actually he did fight at a lower weight division, lightheavy at the olympics. But he was 18 then so it doesn't really count. Sarcastic remark!: If Chavez Jr fights at 195 lbs in MW, what trouble does Ali have?
He is in really good shape at 216. WTF would the point be to get smaller and continue to fight at HW Ali could go 15 rounds. A lot of HW's you see now are huffing and puffing after 3 rounds
Yes, he is in good shape. But some people claim weight doesn't mean **** and that speed is more important. Ali is often given as an example but he outweighted his opponents in 69% of his wins. (Lennox Lewis 70%) Joe Louis is even a worse example as he outweighted he opponents in 75% of his wins. Ironically Wlad makes a better example with outweighing 52% of his wins. But back to the point, if Ali would be active today he could chose between being a cruiser or a hw. Gassing HW's are a problem in every era. And gassing isn't a weight problem (unless you have a Butterbean like weight so to speak), it's mostly about conditioning.
