I know its been some time since Vitali was refusing to fight Oleg, and was apparently taking action to get out of having to fight him (waste one of his last few fights on him). Anyone heard any recent news? If he can get this fight shut down, I think we may see Vitali fight Haye, next. Is Suliaman (Danny Devito looking guy) and the WBC still demanding Vitali to fight Oleg? Surely, they've come to some decision, after all this time. This content is protected
There's been nothing. I think the WBC really wants to do Vitali-Maskaev partly to satisfy the mandatory, but mainly because they know they'll do a whopping gate if they do it in Russia. I think they're reluctant to pass up on that cash, even though something like Vitali-Haye would be able to whip up good coin too.
Vitali beat Peter, then he was going to fight Haye, but WBC forced him to fight mandatory Gomez. Vitali should be able to fight a fight of his choice this time, they fight mandatory Maskaev or whomever they dictate.
If title holders fought four or five times per year, this wouldn't be big of an issue at all, would it?
But the WBC doesn't have any take from the gate, do they? That's the promoter's pie. WBC gets its sanctioning fee and that's it, I think. My impression was WBC wanted to make the fight to avoid legal hassles with Maskaev over how his reign was held - they give him the title shot, he drops his suit. When the whole Peter/Oleg/Vitali question was happening, he wanted the Vitali fight but they mandated Peter.
Yes, I think Rappaport, Oleg's promoter, is the one suing the WBC from what I read some time back. I bet that is how Oleg undeservingly got pushed up to mandatory statues after getting thrashed by Peter. That's crazy if that is the reasoning behind Suliaman's mandatory picking........who he's afraid of getting sued by. :-( That is some bull****, right there.
