I think of Shawn Porter as true value, never in a dull fight and really lived up to the name "Showtime". If every boxer had his professionalism it would easily be the #2 sport behind soccer.
Was never the best welterweight but 2 time champ and beat Danny garcia ugas and broner not a hofer but if there's a list of best welterweight since floyd retired he'll be 5 under thurman spence crawfird and kell
A very solid top 3 or 4 welterweight during his career. He'd fight anyone and today that earns mucho respect
He was a tough test for anyone. The A level guys needed to be ready or they could loose. Although his style was difficult physically, it wasn't difficult to figure out. You knew what to expect most of the time. Elite fighters took advantage of that.
A solid world champion that could hang with the best in the world but would come up just short against the elite. Will be remembered for always bringing the heat and value for money. Very entertaining fighter, loved his aggressive style.
An example of what we all want a fighter to be. All action, fights anyone, no a side bs. Obviously not one of the greats.
Solid WC, that fought the best around and who had some big fight results wrongly go against him e.g Spence.
He was a good welterweight champion. Probably better than names like Benny Paret and John H. Stracey. Crawford probably would've split fights with guys like Marlon Starling, Breland and Honeyghan maybe even Palomino. Not among the very best ever at the weight, though. But he could've hung with most of them. Porter vs. Dave "Boy" Green would've been fun in terms of two attackers mixing it up. Although, given the early weigh-ins these days, Porter probably would've looked like a middleweight (or actually would've been one) next to Green.
Mostly true. He avoided the Ugas rematch like the plague because he was badly outboxed and escaped with a gift.
He was "OK", that's all. He wasn't terrible but he wasn't excellent, he was just "OK" in the grand scheme of things.
