Just wondering, cause my son has been learning Boxing since the age of about 6, he's now 7, but you cant spar until your 10/11, so what is the legal age to spar in America?

Yeah but he's of Mexican descent. I'm surprised he hadn't turned pro by then.

It depends on the gym honestly I have no idea on the actual laws but my trainer and his bro let kids fight quite a bit though most of it was point sparring with karate kids and crap. Hmmm thinking now sparring in itself I dont think has been molested by laws yet I've never heard anything that would suggest you couldn't spar whatever age you are I dont think such laws exist and the legal aspect only has to do with amateurs and proffesionals come to think of it im pretty sure it's legal to let a 6 year old spar as long as he has headgear and gloves and isn't against someone twice his age and weight.

It depends on state law. I am not aware of any state laws that limit the age of sparing. I know there is not a sparing law in NC (I am an attorney here and did a search).

you can probably find more information in the rulebook at ...

    http://assets.teamusa.org/assets/do...42368/2008_Rulebook_FINAL_Letter_from_CEO.pdf

this is what i found with a quick look. check with your gym for their standards, but if he wants to compete at 8y/o, as of his true birthdate, then he has to start sparring prior to that.

101.7. Classes of Competition – male and female
The age of a boxer desiring to compete in USA Boxing sanctioned events shall be
determined by the boxer’s age at the start of the event or tournament. The
exception is USA Boxing national tournaments, for which USA Boxing reserves

    held.
    (1)

    maximum age 16.
    (a) Age divisions and weight classes. The Junior Olympic program will
    consist of four age divisions.
    i.
Bantam Division, ages 8, 9 and 10 years. Only competition at the
LBC club/tournament level is allowed, with the exception of nonadvancing
national tournaments. Advancement to regional or
    national competition is prohibited.
    1. Bantam Division (local) 8-year-olds can only box 8- and 9-year
    olds at LBC club events.

I don't think there are any age requirements to sparring. It's up to the gym to decide who can spar and who can't.
