I've often given this consideration and it's hard to say but these are my top 5 things on a physical level you need.

Chin; If you ain't got punch resistance, then you cant get to the top it's a fact.

Strength; It can be developed, but it tend's to favour some over others look at gene fullmer the guy was just a natural strongman.

Stamina; It's the most trainable of all attributes, and the most important except the chin.

Tough skin; White guy's need not apply. That's my excuse anyway!!!!

Heart; It's physical, it's in the body and more important than anything else. But it can be developed.

Footwork - not necessarily speed of foot, but rhythm and balance.

99% of coaches will tell you that.

Everything on the list is important, but I voted "other." BRAINS is number one. You can every physical ability, but if you can't fight smart, you won't last long at the world class level.

can longevity be counted as an important quality? coz i honestly believe a great boxer has to have what it takes for him to survive tons of battles he'll have to face during he's career. Good boxers most of the time succumb to fighting tough fights after fight that they lose it very early in thier careers. I hope i'm making sense (probably not)

to be a successful boxer you obviously need to have many good attributes. a single one good physical quality willl take you nowhere but if you got many, you can make up for a lacking one.

Its a fine balance between Speed & Power, ring smarts and experience always very important, and always an open mind with capacity to take on board new ideas.. As fighters we are always learning. Using what we have and making the best of our finest attributes is what makes a great fighter.. Hard work ethic and good understanding of the very basics, is essential.. Even to the greatest of boxers, 85% of what a boxer practices is recalling skills learned from scratch.. Heart and Will are things that are important , but can't be learned, just aquired to those willing to go that extra mile..

It's hard to pick just one quality since a good pro really needs to be at least adequate in all of them.

That said, out of the above list, I went with reaction time. I also take that as reflexes, and I chose that because all the speed, power, chin, or stamina will mean jack if you can't react to do what you want to-you'll look bad regardless of what else you've got going for you. It's the inability to do things instinctively that dictates what a fighter can and can't do as they get older- if someone can't process and perform his desired action quickly and instinctively, he'll never be a successful fighter.
