What is the most lop-sided, brutal ass-kicking/mismatch between two ATG's????

Duran had just gone 15 Rounds with Hagler.
Heanrs lost in the ****in 14th while ahead on the cards against one of the best ever, SRL.
He also lost to a Top 3 all-time MW 2 divisions above his best.

You have your opinion, but it's a pretty shitty one.

That 15 rounds with Haglar was still a loss, and his 5th one. The greatest point in your second line is the first two words. I'll quote them for you. "Hearns lost".
Third line, same thing. Except its arguable whether or not Hearns was best at 147.
And finally, he also lost twice to Iran Barley. I'd say yours is the shitty opinion, based more on the fact that he was exciting, rather than a real ATG.

I don't remember it being that punishing.

I'd say Hopkins-Trinidad was more of a systematic dismantling than punishing beatdown. It still led to KO though. Definitely a great performance by an underdog.

Mayweather vs Hernadez (Hernadez was the number #1 lightweight and linear champ)
Williams vs Winky Wright (Both will be ATG when their careers are done)

    :huh

Even if you take out the "Between TWO ATG" part that was a most lop-sided, brutal ass-kicking/mismatch !

You said that Hearns wasn't an all-time great due in part t the notion that Duran was way past it, and that victory wan't really great.

But Duran had just gone 15 with Hagler. He wasn't nearly as diminshed as you like to claim. It wasn't the weight he was known for, but he wasn't shot or "past it"

Hearns loss to Leonard, and subsequent tie cannot be viewed in a vacuum as purely an "L"

Surely you aren't suggesting that a KO14 (Hearns-Leonard) holds the same weight for the loser as a KO1 (Tyson-Bumdude)???? Are you???

Williams ain't no ATG and Wink was shot, out of shape, rusty, inactive etc.

  13. How come no one mentions Marciano vs. Louis??

Yeah Louis was 76 years old at the time... but still, 2 ATGs: check, brutal one-sided beat-down: check.

Duran was past it. He'll never be considered an ATG at 147+. Maybe the best ever at 135, but not 147+. Hearns had ATG punching power, but did not have an ATG chin and is not on the overall ATG elite list. He fought three ATGs in his career, lost two and won one, and the win was against a guy three weight classes above where he was the best.
No i don't consider his KO loss to Leonard (who I do consider an ATG) as the same as a KO-1 of some bum, but it was a loss. He outboxed Leonard for much of the fight, but Leonard dug down late and stopped the other guy. That's what makes him ATG and not Hearns. I don't even count their second fight. Neither guy was anywhere near their prime. Hearns just a year earlier had been KTFO by Iran Barkley in 3.
His other ATG loss was another KO-3. He started strong (the "Hagler's hurt!) call was premature. Hagler was not a big puncher, but he was hurting Hearns and walking through Hearns' shots. It was brutal and exciting, but inevitable. Hagler was just that much better because Hearns had to KO a guy like that to beat him, and no one was going to KO Hagler. He was never going to go the distance with Hagler, no matter how many times they fought.
I'm a fan of Hearns and loved his fan-friendly style. I think he was one of the best of his era, one of the most exciting fighters, one of the hardest punchers and deserves to be in the HOF. But I think the ATG list should be reserved for the utmost elite. And I don't think he's in that category.
