For what it's worth, boxers fought far more often in most previous eras, and because of that, top guys fought other top guys with greater regularity. Would be interesting if we can take some kind of objective 'measurement' of the types of things you're stating as a "percentage of bouts" that occurred each year from those earlier eras, because with more elite level match-ups, there was inherently many more opportunities for funny business that may not have been on the up and up.

I agree 100%! I can remember when a fighter had to earn his ranking......................and that ranking meant something, it comes out in the movie "Requiem For A Heavyweight" when Mountain Rivera, as a finished fighter, kept saying I used to be #5 in the world and back then that meant something! I remember when fighters used to fight often, now they just sit on the title, rankings mean nothing at all now, it's the promoter that makes the rankings.......................$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$Joe Louis had the bum of the month club, but at least he was fighting on a regular basis......................even once per month sometimes, now, once per year, or longer, too many belts! Too many champions, public gets confused, the titles do not mean as much as back them. Sure the Gambino family used to run Vegas, but the corporations are just as bad, very greedy, judging is sick, judges like Byrd, or Jarman, some others, who pays them? Too much money involved, fighters get too greedy and want too much money for a fight, absurd amounts, back them they could make good money, but they had to work for it.............

40s through early 50s when Mike Jacobs ran Madison Square Garden and the Hippodrome, controlling the champions of every weight division, and just after that when the mob took an even bigger hand.

You guys are so lame.. If you think boxing is only out to fix fights to make your favorite fighter lose then stop watching it..

It's obvious from your examples.. Those Pac fans who hate everything Mayweather, loves everything GGG, but hate Ward for some reason as if they fixed the fight so the cash cow Ward can keep making his Oakland money.. Then he retired..lol

I challenge you to come up with as many examples of your favorite fighter having a fight fixed for him too or this is just a cry baby thread...smh

You seriously attempt to proclaim that this era is more
rigged and corrupt than the era that the mob had sway
over boxing? Or even earlier when certain fighters literally
weren't "allowed" to fight other boxers?

go sit in the corner with your clear bias please

Boxing has always had a shady element, but the most corrupt era had to be the 20s-50s. The mob controlled everything: who got title shots, who didn't, and how they had to perform along the way.

Even Jake Lamotta took a dive to get a title shot. Primo Carnera was carried to the top of the rankings. Organized crime figures sat ringside. It was corrupt as hell.

    Actually you are partly right.
The Mob/Mafia were responsible for the corruption back in but they kept a low profile the 50's & were regarded as CROOKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today the ones ruling boxing are the State Commissions they have now taken over the sport & running rampant They have NO ONE policing them. They do exactly as they please & do not even try to hide the corruption
Certain boxer was allowed to break the Commissions OWN RULES regarding EXCESSIVE ILLEGAL IV fluid given in the boxers home. When he was caught & this was made public
the self same Commission issued a statement saying " He did nothing wrong we will not be investigating' Then issued him a TUE for the saline THREE WEEKS AFTER he'd been caught !!!!!!! There have been many such incidents in the last 15 -20 years
Tes the Mob were the ones corrupting boxing Today its the State commissions BOTH appear just as crooked

You are right in the fact that the public KNOW whats going on now but STILL nothing is being done about it. The State Commissions have replaced the Mob making it worse
The Commissions seem to change or make up new rules to suit certain fighters need No One can do a Damn thing about it

most rigged era was august 2011 in anaheim california

never have i ever watched a fight in the 40 years that i have been watching boxing that was more rigged than that fight .

it was so blatant /so corrupt/so pre ordained /

this was a world title fight between 2 elite boxers in a sport where you can die and you had team mares and the referee colluding together in order to give the african fighter not a prayer in hell and yet mares was allowed to box on as if there was no collusion or bribery involved despite bviously having paid off the ref.

    mares v agbeko

still makes me angry watching it 7 years later.

As evidenced by this week’s guilty plea in your District by Robert Mittelman to charges that he fixed fights and then unsuccessfully sought to bribe both a federal judge in your District and an Assistant United States Attorney in your Office, it is regrettably all too possible that someone sought to illegally influence the outcome of the Klitschko/Brewster bout. We believe that the facts of record to date more than justify a full investigation by your Office.
In this regard, it should be noted that identifying unusual changes in the odds has been an effective weapon in ferreting out the fixing of sporting events. As reported on March 31, 2002 by Edward Epstein of the San Francisco Chronicle: “The [gaming] industry also claims that Nevada casinos have tipped off the FBI to a few college basketball point-shaving scandals over the past several years by looking for unusual betting patterns on games.” Further, a key ground for the general consensus that the March 1999 draw in the Lennox Lewis/Evander Holyfield bout was the product of corrupt judging, was the fact that the odds on that fight went from 11-5 in Lewis’s favor to “pick ‘em” by the time of the fight. Of course, the swift change in the odds on the Klitschko/Brewster fight were far more dramatic and therefore much more indicative of foul play.
Second, there was a very suspicious incident concerning fight credentials. As you may know, certain credentials for a fight – such as the ones that give a person access to all areas of the arena on fight night – are highly prized and limited. For that reason and also, more importantly, because of security concerns, such credentials are released to an individual only if he or she is on a credentials list and he or she provides photo identification. Notwithstanding these procedures, when a member of the Klitschko team went to pick up his credential prior to the bout, he was told that it had already been picked up. When the team member asked for more information, it became clear that someone had picked up the credential by falsely claiming to be the team member. Given the requirement of photo identification, this error should not have been possible. Yet, it happened, thereby creating a situation where an unidentified person secured an all-access pass through fraud, thus providing himself unfettered access to the arena. While this scenario may seem outlandish, is it any more outlandish than Mr. Mittleman offering a judge and prosecutor in this District $15,000 to fix a case? Is it more outlandish that, in 1919, Arnold Rothstein bribed eight members of the Chicago White Sox so that they would throw the World Series?

In sum, before the Klitschko/Brewster bout even began, there were strong indications – in the form of extreme volatility in the betting line and fraud in the securing of an all-access credential – that some mischief was afoot. Those indications ripened with what transpired next. Just some highlights from the letter by Judd Burstein show corruption and that is just the tip of the iceberg!
