All I seem to be hearing about these days is catchweight this and catchweight that and it does not serve any purpose in my opinion If your trying to fight a welterweight then fight at welterweight. Same goes for the other divisions. Boxing seems to be going limp. First all the different belts and champions and now all of this catchweight bull**** Pac if you want to fight Cotto and Mosley, go up to 147lbs like you did to fight Oscar and fight them or they can come down to 140lbs. Same goes for any other boxer If not then stick to your division and stay humble. This goes for all the other fighters too
Weight divisions are arbitrary to start with so they can have 'champions'. A lot of good fights wouldn't happen with out catch weights. It is about trying to make a good fight at a reasonable weight for both fighters if they happen to fight at different weights.
I agree. Personally, if the fighters can't make a weight comfortalbe for both I say to hell with it. Mosley and Cotto are giving away too much at 142 and Pac is giving away too much above that. JMM is giving away way way way too much at 147 but well, gee, I guess that ain't a catch weight any more. I don't mind catch weight fights, maybe they ought to get rid of all the alphabet titles and all the weight classes and just have agreed upon weights and same day weigh ins. IN a perfect world...
Catchweights create compelling fights. The more concerning question that can be asked is what's the point of having divisions when each weight class harbors about a million belts especially since it's become increasing difficult to unify the titles?
That would be my choice. Pick a weight and FIGHT at that weight. Stop the gaming crap. Problem is, titles sell tickets and PPV's to the general public.
. . . that's the results of this P4P craze. The alphabet soup belts doesn't carry much stature and money. :deal
