I would think it would help the back and core strength. The only thing is all that swinging has to be bad for the joints. I mean people get tennis elbow from hitting tennis balls, then hitting a giant rubber tire (which has some bounce back) with a heavy hammer, sounds like it would be **** on your elbows. Im no expert, so I could be wrong. I wouldnt do it personally though.
wow this is all news to me... i chop wood all the time, never really counted it as a "workout" just a part of the daily chores.
hmmm.. That's a good point. I can't do either of these becaue I don't have access to either wood or a giant tire. (there's probably a gym with a giant tire somewhere, but I haven't found it)
Cause landing the sledge means you learn to tighten your wrist before impact. It strengthens your hand / wrist power which is required for driving shots deep.
