What is the point of lying about PPV numbers?

A rematch won't happen and Mayweather is most likely moving on with Khan next. This is nothing official obviously just my prediction as you stated yours. If the PPV numbers prove to be $700k to $800k I highly doubt a rematch will happen because very few will support it regardless of the first fight's result which was obvious and clear.

Mayweather has broken PPV records in his fight with Alvarez and had to move up in weight and take that fight after the poor PPV numbers against Guerrero. Sure a Catchweight was involved but how many casual fans(where the real money comes from) care or know about Catchweights?. As far as Pacquiao is concerned, he made over $1million in PPV buys in his fourth fight against Marquez which was excellent and went downhill from there against Rios who was a joke of an opponent considering Pacquiao was coming off a brutal loss. His rematch with Bradley made very good PPV numbers($800k+) considering Marquez vs Bradley's poor PPV sales. A fifth fight with Marquez will sure as hell attract many fans yet again if Marquez impresses against Alvarado soon.

Don't expect PPV numbers to force both Mayweather and Pacquiao to eventually negotiate and fight unless they clearly have no one else to go for. That's the only time when both networks will agree to work together to make this fight. As long as options are available these guys will take them and will be spanked to face serious opposition if they fail to impress with their PPV sales.

I don't think many people want to see Pac fight JMM a 5th time, i for one certainly don't

both Floyd and Pac are running out of opponents, other than JMM and Bradley, who does Arum have for Pac? Alvarado? Garcia moving up? good luck with that

Floyd isn't in a great position either, I think a lot of people bought Money-Maidana because they saw Maidana clowing FLoyd's ******ed brother in his previous fight, and as for future opponents? Khan doesn't fight in September, Thurman Porter or even Lara are names that will have trouble selling even more than Maidana, because most casuals have no idea who they are

I sure hope PPV derails itself, because it is being severely overused these days, despite what some say, it has stopped boxing being a mainstream sport like in the 90's or early 2000's when only the absolute hit fights were PPV, now US fans get to pay extra for farces like Canelo-Angulo

    Absofeckinglutely.
Its ok to say "oh,but the die hard fans will see it" when infact as a mainstream sport its dead.It will never be truly as mainstream as it once was but PPV has killed it.When you get mediocre fights being made PPV it turns many folks off and with the pathetic undercards on offer its making it worse.
