What is the real deal with Riddick Bowe, anyway?

When he first came back in 2004, I had dreams that he would bet back in shape and fight Vitaly Klitschko. Over 5 years later, and he has had two additional fights.

Its obvious that he is done, but why? He is only 42-43 now, which for a heavy of his size and punching power is not by any means too old these days. When he came back originally, he was only 37-38, and look at what Vitaly is doing at that age. Hell, Holyfield virtually beat Valuev at 46, so what is Bowe's problem?

There were rumors of rematches with Holyfield and Golota, and Lennox Lewis acually said that he would come back to fight Riddick Bowe only.

Are the rumors of brain damage true? Is is just laziness? Why can't we get one great last run from a frustrating but talented champ?

I stopped reading after the first paragraph. You can't be serious.

Riddick Bowe was out of shape by 1994, and was punchy by 1996. You expect him to take almost ten years away from the sport and be in any kind of shape to make it in the top 10 let alone fight a Klitschko? Stop this nonsense.

No one ever wants to accept that their favorite fighters are shot.

Favorite and most hated. Fine line there. He was such an important part of that golden era- and blew it. He just didn't do quite enough to get where he should be.

Bowe can barely talk at this point. He shouldn't be fighting. Period.

    How old are you?

I dont know how much of Bowes career you have seen firsthand, but the man was on the slide by 1994. He took hellacious punishment in the Holyfield fights and he was never dedicated to training and would gain massive amounts of weight in between fights

The first fight with Holyfield was the high point of his career, but he honestly (in my opinion) never looked that good again. He came close, but never was in that kind of shape and with that kind of focus. He gave a 100 level performance, but then it was 99, then 97, then 95. You see where Im going? All his successive fights after that, he kept degradining just a little bit, but it added up.

By the time Golota got to him, Bowe had been out of shape and wasnt really motivated. Bowe completely got his ass kicked, even without the low blows.

Bowe has been slurring his words ever since and his body was broken down.

Vitali is a completely different fighter, both mentally and physically. The only thing they have in common is that they are tall. Thats it

I said he gave a 100 level performance, thats A+, elite level.

My point I was making was that the first Holyfield fight was the absolute high point of his performances as a boxer. He never looked that good before, and never looked that good after.

He was still an awesome boxer. But like I said, he went from level 100, to 99, 97. Still elite, still great, but not "as" great as that one performance. He started to decline very quickly.

I dont mean that he suddenly went from being journeyman to elite to journeyman overnight. He was always immensely talented. But he had one fight where he peaked, and everything after that never approached that level.

I should have worded it differently.

Bowe was once a very good boxer, Eddie Futch is the one who did it. After Golota fights Bowe was not the same, Eddie refused to train him for the second fight if I recall correctly.
