True...he actually boxed against AJ, and i gave him credit for that. Wlad was allowed to do anything. The german commentators and ring experts always said "he is boxing so smart...so clever" But i just hated it. I hated it too see what happend to the sport. Always holding, pushing down, leaning on smaller opponents, stiff arm... tbh: I thought it was not ok from Lewis, and the refs were right to warn him. But Klitschko's whole style was based on using fouls to suppress the attacks of his opponents as soon as they were in their punch range.
A few seconds before the clip the referee had just warned Lewis for grabbing/leaning, so he probably was making it clear he didn't want any of that stiff-arm wrestling stuff either. Bizarrely, Lewis was allowed to wear his foul-poof almost up to his nipples though.
Even though that stiff arming is illegal , Lewis deserved a stiffer warning for wearing that armour around his waist. Holyfield worked the body well in those fights but it had no effect. Re:Klitschko.. Imagine he was around back then. He'd have multiple losses by DQ for constant breaching of the rules. .. It just shows how everything had to be adjusted to his liking for him to succeed.
That's not stiff arming. Stiff arming is when you put your hand in someone's face and push their head back. Lewis wasn't even touching him. This is stiff arming, although from an NFL player. I remember Larry Holmes using it effectively to try to keep guys at a distance. https://www.sportscasting.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Derrick-Henry-Stiff-Arm.jpg I've heard referees say they warn boxers for keeping their arm extended because it's a danger to the boxer extending his arm. Seem to recall Jeff Franklin breaking Gabe Ruelas' arm in their fight when he kept his arm extended. Although, I don't think Ruelas was stiff arming at the time. His arm was just extended.
I don’t think it was having his arm extended from the motion the ref makes. I think it was for having an open glove.
