That's a great shout.True about McClellan being a shell too.You could fill a thousand books with this sport. The very nature of the game and the fact all walks of life, rich or poor can get involved mean there's probably more heartbreak in boxing than any other sport.:-(
He ended up broke he said in an interview he lives off paycheck to paycheck. his daughter died recently
Names that come to my mind are Billy Collins, Sugar Ray Robinson in his later life, so to for Joe Louis. Louis was a great champion, fought many exhibitions during WWII while in the military to raise money through War Bonds etc., only to be hounded until the day he died by the IRS for back taxes. Kim dying after his fight with Mancini. Ali with all his health issues today that all his money can't fix. Meldrick Taylor also comes to mind when I think about how boxing took a toll on his mental state. There's far too many for me to pick one that really stands out.
I thought sonny liston would have gotten a mention by now.his life was a tragedy from beginning to end
the floyd and manny fiasco. its a disgrace if this fight does'nt happen next year. whoever's to blame, its boxing, and the boxing fans who lose out if it doesnt happen.
Quite a few years back an Aircrash wiped out a US Ametuer Boxing Team, Not Just for boxings sake. Ali and Quarry made their decisions but these young guys never got of the launching pad in life.
George Chuvalo comes to mind also. He's suffered a great deal of personal tragedy in his life. One of his sons committed suicide, two others died of drug overdoses and his wife committed suicide after losing her second son. That's a lot for any one man to handle but the last time I saw video of him, he seemed to be doing well for himself and coming to terms with what life has dealt him. He has remarried and gives speeches at high schools warning kids of the dangers of drug use last I heard.
