Travesty in the matchup or travesty in the end result?

No problems with the matchup as Louis (along with guys like Matthews, Layne, and Savold) was an important gatekeeper to the top-tier guys like Walcott and Charles. Boxing is a cruel sport, but there is something almost poetic watching a new young hungry lion defeat the old lion, no matter how brutal the beatdown may appear.

In terms of the actual result, Joe Louis was Marciano's hero and had Louis not been a gatekeeper to bigger fights he would not have faced him. If you watch any interviews with his surviving family members they will always tell you it bothered Marciano to see his hero go out the way he did. There were no hard feelings before, during, or after the fight. Marciano is far from a slick boxer; only knows how to come forward and slug, so he knew he couldn't just coast to a points victory (even if he wanted to, Louis was still a threat even well past his prime).

I hate watching Ali vs Holmes. The Marciano vs Louis was pretty bad to. I kinda lol when Joe Louis got knocked through the ropes though.

Holmes wasn't 'shot' when he faced Tyson. Tyson was just that good for a short period of time.
    Ali-Holmes gets my vote.

Ali holmes number 1: I watched that fight only one time, turned it off half way because Ali is one of if not my favourite fighters and i couldnt stand seeing him like that.
If you consider oscar a atg then pac dlh is also a vicious beating.
One that I personally very much dislike that wasnt mentioned yet was joppy vs duran, im glad tito destroyed him a little bit later.

De la Hoya was a shot ATG when Pacquiao faced him.

    End of story.

yeah I remember that. Never been a big fan of Leonard, but I admired how he still tried to KO Norris late in the fight after he got his ass handed to him that badly

Yep, Joppy-Duran definitley belongs in that list. It was painful to see, could also have been stopped earlier..

    Joppy-Duran, G.Johnson-Jones and Calzaghe-Jones are the worst I've seen.
