I read in the KO1 thread where someone said Kirkland-Ishida...

I think I have to go with

. Yall know I'm a little biased about the surrounding circumstances but, here's how I remember it:

If you go back to that time, Margarito had beaten Cotto and many people wanted him to rematch PW who had beaten him previously, and had just lost to and avenged Quintana with a KO1. Williams was screaming to the top of his lungs for the winner of Cotto-Margarito and when Margarito won, the pressure grew just a little bit more.

It all took a turn for the worst when Bob Arum sent Goosen a letter telling him to stop contacting him about a fight with Williams. Instead they chose Shane Mosely, who many thought was much too faded to deal with Margarito's pressure style and granite chin. Many people picked it to be Shane's first loss by KO....

    OOPS! :patsch:patsch:patsch

What are some of your worst "cherrypicks" gone wrong?

Oscar De La Hoya- Manny Pacquiao immediately comes to mind.

After Margarito beat Cotto he was the logical opponent for Oscar but Oscar ducked him claiming he didnt want to fight any more mexicans, instead he chose to fight Manny Pacquiao who was fighting three divisions bellow him, what everybody including Oscar himself thought it would be an easy fight it turned out to be his worst nightmare with Pac giving him the biggest beating of his career and making him quit and retire boxing, after this fight Oscar went into a downward spiral turning to drugs, hookers and cross dressing, this fight not only ruined Oscar as a fighter it almost ruined him as a person

Tyson vs Holyfield 1. Holyfield was seen as past his best having been KO'ed by Bowe and struggling with Czyz. Tyson had previously paid Lewis step aside money to first face Seldon and then instead of facing his mandatory in Lewis dropped the WBC belt to face Holyfield.

    :deal

Margarito vs Mosley I think had to do with him being caught cheating and he was just not mentally all there.

Kirkland vs Ishida is another cherrypicking gone wrong.

Maidana vs Ortiz. Maidana, although undefeated, was unknown and was going to be another win for Ortiz. This cherrypick gone wrong opened Maidana more opportunities for better fights.

And what could have been a "cherrypick gone wrong", Martinez vs Murray.

Who exactly cherry-picked who in that one?

Kirkland-Ishida was a good one recently. Tyson-Holyfield is a good shout too.

Pacquiao v JMM III. Everyone, and I mean everyone, thought JMM was going to get run over by a truck. He, somewhat definitively, embarrassed and outclassed the supposed P4P champ.
