I have seen him fight a couple of times and he is a very good boxer puncher. I remember he was in some type of HW tournament of four rounders years ago. I believe he has a great shot at beating Vlad. I hope he wins.
I guess Krasniqi, but a case can be made for it being Guinn, either way, neither man is any good anymore, Guinn is about as unconsistant as you can get and Krasniqi has some decent skills, but cant seem to step up and beat anyone worth a **** when the time comes to shine, his fight against Brewster in late 05 is a good example of this, was beating Lamon to the punch the whole night, got caught with a good hook and it was downhill from there, where he ended up getting laid out in the 9th round I believe.
I'd say Krasniqi though he's not a world beather anymore and wasn't when Thompson faced him. I still have a hunch that Thompson has a very good chance tomorrow night.
The Krasniqi fight was stopped without any real reason, but to set up a fight with Vlad for big money. Vlad weighing in at only 241 spells trouble for Thompson.
This fight got stopped because Krasniqui was getting totally dominated and didn't even fight back anymore. He wasn't on the edge of being knocked out but he was taking too much punishment. The stoppage was the right decision. Krasniqui is Thompsons best win, I know Krasniqui was washed up but to dominate him the way he did was quite impressive.
My opinion says Krasniqui, followed by Guinn. Guinn sadly has a history of beating himself though. I love Dominick but he has to remind himself to let the hands go more and stop hesitating. Thompson just basically capitalised on Guinns fundamental errors. Thompson has a real shot against Wlad, he has a lot of very good attributes, and he is in fab shape.
I don't think he has much of a resume. Krasniqi is the best opponnent..but he was passed it. He was able to get through thompsons defense a lot before he quit. Timor Igragimov was a snoozefest because it was too hot. Guinn...not impressed by Guinn at all(check his record..it reads "gatekeeper") . 3 mediocre wins really. Thompson looks slow for a top heavyweight. for his size has a weak jab, slow footwork, no head movement and does not come in at angles. He seems to have a good chin, and good combinations. I think he is at a significant disadvantage in speed, power, skill, movement. maybe his only edge is chin and thats not been tested that much. I think this is a clear mismatch and an easy ko for Wlad should he actually go for it. Thompsons only chance is to land a big punch that Wlad is not able to get up from on steady legs and the ref stops it. If wlad gets up. he now is experienced in clinching until he recovers, unlike the past where he would try to start punching back immediately.
it definately was not krasniqi. not unless you count who is the highest ranked opponent he has fought. krasniqi all through his career has been inconsistent. on a couple of occasions turning up and downright refusing to fight . thompson was one of those fights where krasniqi simply was not intrested and put up no effort to win the fight at all. surley thompson has faced some opponents who have at least tried to beat him. guinn is another krasniqi in effect , going through the motions in many fights with no hunger or will to win.
i disagree. krasniqi wasn't just washed up, he acted like he got raped just before the fight. i like krasniqi, but i doubt his mental health, especially when it comes down to fighting. thompson's win over krasniqi was not impressive at all, it was a present by krasniqi. he totally lost focus and... honestly.. this was one of the strangest performances i ever saw in my life of a fighter. just like when krasniqi quit one time "no mas"-style. i don't think this was totally thompson's achievement. thompson is a weird long southpaw, and krasniqi just lacked motivation and mental abitlity to adjust to that. so then thompson just beat him, not even beat him up. i don't want to talk bad about either of them, but this fight was a joke. it shouldn't be taken to judge anything, it was just a very strange night.
I would say Guinn, who was on a hot trail when Thompson blew up that dream of his. He looked quite good that night i might add.. fight was almost stopped.
I remember "The Ring" editing a large photo of Guinn at the end of Tony's right jab in their first page and emphasizing his nickname "Southern Disaster" for having lost to the once "largely un-heralded Tony Thompson". That must have been the fight and the Krasniqi one gave him the title shot.
