Make no mistake, if it were not for the KDs, Pascal would have lost that fight. For 4 rounds he looked pretty good, moving in and out, with flashy speedy punches that troubled Hopkins. But once again, Pascal seems to lose stamina real fast. For a top level fighter he's conditioning and cardio looks terrible.

For those of you technical enough to understand boxing training and preparation for 12 round fights, what could be the reason for Pascal losing so much so quickly? Is he basing his training too much on explosive power and strength, and neglecting stamina and endurance work?

The guy fades like crazy in the second half of fights and just why has he not worked on that so that he can go at a better pace and not get tired down the stretch. Very strange.

He lost even though he knocked him down twice, I think hopkins timed him and schooled him after 4 rounds, it has more to dow ith b-hops ring iq then pascals fitness.

No way does Hopkins have the work rate to be the cause Pascal's dramatic drop in Stamina. Hopkins was more aggressive than usual but even then, you telling me a guy 18 years his junior cannot live the pace that 45 year old Hopkins set?? Pascal's lack of fitness is surely down to something he is doing wrong in training, and not cos of Hopkins ring IQ.

Pascal is shaped like a football player. I bet he lifts a **** load of weights. Its all that compact muscle. Thats why he fades with his stamina. He needs to work on his legs and stop doing all the weight lifting.

Maybe get some help from Ariza at the wildcard? Change his body up to be more suited to distance fights? whilst still maintaining his power and strength.

most fighters with styles that rely so much on strength speed slow appreciably down after 4 to 5 rounds. muscles get overacidificated quicker etc

I think he works too much on strength muscle mass. He fights in spurts and is not a very good boxer to be honest. Dawson had a chance to beat him badly because Pascal fights in spurts and if you attack him after he throw a combination there won't be too much firing back.

His problem is he doesn't pace himself ..He loads up on every punch and it doesn't help that he bounces around all over the ring every round ..

Exactly he charges like a bull and wastes so much energy and if his opponent has some good footwork he ends up bouncing off the ropes

I agree. I think he also expends a lot of energy when he's constantly circling round the ring doing absolutely nothing.

Thats why roids are overrated in boxing. He looks good on a poster and people assume he hits hard because of his big bicep. But those big muscle consume to much energy and put pressure on is joints.

there was a short video on shosport, he was saying he trained 3 times a day, and if you train 3 times a day, which i think is wrong as he will always be training at the wrong intensity.

I question this last night, he must have the lowest output in boxing today. He threw 50 punches in the first 3 rounds (when he was fresh) I think, its mind boggling.

4th or 5th round I swore he threw 10 punches each round. Anyone has the compubox?
