I really, really dont understand how anyone can have Tyson ahead of Holyfield. Not only did Holy beat him twice in head to head matchups, he beat (Douglas) or did well against (Lewis) the very guys who also bested Tyson. He had more longevity, fought more future or former champs...I mean, Mike had a longer sustained reign at the top and had more dominating performances while defending the belts, but look at the cans who were around at the time.

 

You have a very good perspective on the issue and make some good points.. I'm not sure that I agree with your statement about Tyson fighting cans though.. Berbick Thomas, Smith, Tucker, Spinks, Bruno, Tubbs and Williams weren't bums and Tyson beat them all in pretty decisive fashion... Holyfield's first reign consisted of Douglas, Cooper, and 40 year old versions of Holmes and Foreman. Tyson was the youngest heavyweight champ in history with a very dominant reign, while Holy was the division's only 4 time champ.. Evander has claim to have beaten Tyson twice, and I give him credit for doing so, but both men were past their best by that point.

I suppose I can settle for either man being slightly rated over the other.. I guess it just depends on what criteria you use..

Yes, he does. Tyson wasn´t the champ until he beat Spinks and he was older than Patterson then. We had this discussion already I think.

Probably, I still don´t know how this should influence the judgement of a fighter. But it should somehow, ´cause it´s simply cheating.

I disagree Bohdi. The night Tyson defeated Tony Tucker, thus unifying all THREE major titles...He became undisputed champion of the world. That was the night I declared him Champion. At the time he beat Tucker, Tyson was still younger than Patterson.
