What is worse for a career - Devastating knockout early , or a beating over 12 rounds

Some of my favourite fighters - Roberto Duran and Terris Norris have been badly knocked out early, but I get the feeling they were able to take positives , that they just got caught and didnt see punches coming.

On the other side Pavlik takes a beating over 12 from Hopkins.

Cotto is never the same after Margarito.

Morales is another.

I think it is harder to take for a fighter when they have been beaten up over 12 rather than a devastating early knockout.

I cannot really remember a fighter come good again who has been beaten and bloodied against a better fighter.

But there are plenty who are on the knocked out highlight reels but come back stronger

I don't know I guess it depends on the boxer, Ali took long beatings against frazier and norton and came back well, SRR too came back, but Lacy never did. Its purely case by case I think

Edit: although ill admit that in the beatings Ali took he wasn't humiliated or anything, they were close fights but still he took a lot of punishments.

 

A beating over 12 definately, unless the devestating KO is the kind that you leave on a stretcher.

I would think it easier to come back from an early KO if you have a strong willed mind. A 12 rnd beating will take it's toll on ya I would think. Look at Margarito or Briggs in their last fights. They would have been better off getting KO'd early rather than being rushed to the hospital with a broken face. :!:

Sustained 12 round beating on is harder on the body and more detrimental to a fighters career in the long-term physically.

Mentally though it is harder to say, I suppose it depends on the fighter. One might be disappointed that over 12 rounds they never found a way back into the fight, on the other hand, one might be glad they managed to last the distance at least and there confidence should really take a knock if they don't trust their punch resistance anymore.

 

For a boxer's health the 12 round beating is worse. However if we are not talking about the personal health of a boxer. Just him as a boxer the quick knockout is worse. Where he may be called curagrous for going 12 rounds. He may be considered to be a glass jaw or nothing but a Hype job.
