For what it's worth, the Chavez/Taylor stoppage was good IMO.

 

The stoppages themselves aren't awful, it's more the consistency of the approach. As soon as the away fighter's back touches the ropes and they put their arms up, they are liable to get stopped.

One is far, far worse imo. I like it that British refs err on the side of caution.

If the ref interferes too much & is clearly very biased then he deserves criticism.

If the ref allows a fighter to continue when in no fit state then he's unfit to do the job.

If the ref feels one guy's had enough then fair play imo. He's closer to the action than anyone & its easy to scream robbery from the sofa.

 

I agree with you in principle. It's just that it seems 90% of the time the stoppages seem very biased. It should be fair for everyone. Simple as that.

 

If you were a pro boxer would you prefer...?

A. Going to America & risk a terrible beating
B. Going to Germany & risk getting jobbed on points
C. Going to the UK & risk getting stopped when in trouble

 

Scenario C is the problem - some fights get stopped when the fighter isn't in any real trouble, he's maybe a little hurt but defending himself.

It's a sport where you get punched in the head. As long as one guy isn't shipping insane punishment, then it shouldn't be stopped.

Last Sat I thought Murray, Wolak & Margarito all took too many shots, all 3 fights could have ended earlier.

Fair stoppage tonight imo

 

Wolak could have got killed last Saturday and thats no exageration.
