I mean really. Is he thinking properly? I'm sure this has been talked about elsewhere. I just can't get my head around it. Doesnt he know that when he knocks Manny Paquio out boxing fans are just going to look down on him?
Well, he fought Hopkins at 160 so I guess you can't blame him for fighting smaller guys. I mean yeah, it's pretty bad. But he himself was a SFW once and the last time I cheked PacMan was 146 fight night - a welterweight. And 147 is the contract weight, so you can expect PacMan to put more weight than one pound up... I expect Manny to be 152 fight night or even heavier. But I agree... there's nothing to gain for Oscar... so it's a bad move.
in my opinion this fight is a lose-lose situation for oscar's legacy....however, financially it is win-win for oscar, but does oscar really need to worry about having the biggest money fight at this point?...i mean shouldn't he be more concerned with his legacy (and fighting a truly challenging opponent closer to his weight class ala Margarito, Trinidad , etc) right now considering how he has only one fight left and his financial concerns are taken care of for life b/c of his ownership of GBP? Fighting a guy who is 3 weight classes below you is not impressive or inspiring, even if he is the current p4p #1!
Well fighters can put on 14% of their bodyweight after weigh in..easily..Manny will be overweight if he is much more than 147 on fight night. Oscar will be about 157. When you see them in the ring together it will quickly become obvious that this is a mismatch.
The only thing I can think is this: 1. Oscar wants his last fight to be a win. 2. Manny is the only name he is confident of beating. 3. Simple as that Surely Hatton would have been a better idea...
He's the number one PFP guy out there, yea he's smaller but if that list means anything then let them fight there both grown men who cares. I say just have no weight limit at all when a fight like this for no title who cares about the weight. Weight limits are only inplace to give advantages and disadvantages to the fighters.
Why worry about it? They are both big boys who know what their doing... some of you act like Pacquiao was forced against his will to sign on for this fight. Who was it again that started the challenge? Was it not Pac's people, or should I say Greedy Roach.....
