He was more outside the ring then in it and a poor champion I think. Holding the title hostage and all. He did try to make the Wills fight happen he did want to be a fighting champion by his own mouth anyways and I believe it. My favourite heavyweight somedays, he looks rudimentary but some of the stuff he did was exceptional in my eyes I like him and his style but head to head under his rules I think he was one of the finest fighters ever.

Bullsh... It's easier to invent a narrative whole cloth out of unknown substance.

Perhaps he could have had Gibbons beat at least Greb...

No, it is actually much easier to build up somebody who is good in reality.

The most effective lie is he one that is closest to the truth.
There is a very simple solution to that problem.

    Just don't fight Greb.

What the heck are you doing banned mate? I can only surmise it was the Isis/religious posts which were short and pretty innocuous.

Dempsey was one of the greatest heavyweights of the first half of the 20th century. I would only place Joe Louis and maybe Jack Johnson above him.

Just because Dempsey didn't fight Wills, it doesn't mean that he was no good.

He might have beaten Wills easily, you just don't know.

It's a real shame we can't get them back in their primes and have them finally fight. It's said that they never fought in their time. The Promotion, Money, and will power to overcome the prejudices of the time just weren't there, unfortunately. If my first sentence could be accomplished, I'd bet a huge bundle on Jack. I know that much.

And I might have beat Lennox Lewis easily. You just don't know.

In that case, I could probably make an educated guess.

I think its laughable to say dempsey ducked greb when he fought tunney, also the color line was the product of his managers, not him. Speaking of Harry Wills, Jack Sharkey beat him, then was beaten by a much past it dempsey.

I said he never fough Greb, not ducked. But given the common opponents that Greb beat & his qualifications compared to others faced-& how seldom Dempsey fought-he should have faced him.

Yes Dempsey listened to his Managers re: the color line-which was wrong. He should have faced Willis.
In later life Dempsey who was a racist product of his time had to modify his attitude to stay involved with & listened to on HWs.

Consider whhere Willis was in his career when Sharkey beat him.
Either way he was supermely entitled to a title shot on the merits.

And it is not fair to cite Dempsey beating Srahkey absent noting the aberrent circumstance.
Where Sharkey was easily ahead & very likely to have won if not having left himself unprotected about a low blow that he wwas right about.

Also Dempsey should NOT have been "much past it" by the age he fought Sharkey.
Nor later vs. Tunney in either fight. Given his ages & lack of ring wear.
