A knockdown where the fighter is relatively unhurt and gets up quickly. Holmes vs Shavers would be a perfect example of this.
Indeed it was. Enry's Hammer gave Ali a very rude awakening to what life is like up at Brit Level and lucky for Ali he had a Brit level chin or he would've been counted out after eating that left hook. I believe the experience Ali gained in that fight was so invaluable to him that without it he never would've gone on to achieve all he subsequently did.
Another one that just popped up for me is Wlad getting dropped for a sec against Williamson. Wlad actually came back that same round to arguably even it up from a 10-8
Don't have one. It's either a KD or a slip. Flash knockdowns are the parlance of commentators as far as I care. People forget Queensberry rules have a symbolic element to them, and grounding your foe is viewed as such. This is why I hate people giving out 9-9 rounds. People bringing other **** into this to qualify KDs are missing the point. Boxing isn't all-out combat, it's ritualistic competition, and an opponent hitting the canvas is viewed as him momentarily buckling - and is reflected in the scoring as such
Agreed! I think it was a big part of Ali's learning experiences and brought out & tested his legendary chin with a punch that would've put down (or out) just about anyone in recorded history. It was an absolutely cracking shot, thrown with venom on it & dead-accurate. Just as an aside, I wonder about a somewhat popular idea amongst some trainers, that LHWs were more dangerous than anyone else (this is before CW). The speed difference is such a big advantage for those that can box a bit lol. Look how quickly Cooper jumps on that punch, or another of the few shots that put Ali down, the left hook from Frazier, another punch thrown super quick in the heat of battle buy a "small" guy. And that is versus the iron chin of MA!
For sure. Ali was made in Britain. That left hook was the catalyst for his greatness. Yes, I think you're right. By today's standards Cooper would've been a LHW but one with a HW wallop.
