Mine is probably Heavyweight for now,but that is the only one I've followed. So we will see if that changes once I have crossed off certain fighters of my career Marathon. I'm currently on an Muhammad Ali kick again after watching his whole career 10 years ago, don't remember much. But I am planing to watch Liston,Louis and maybe Frazier's careers as those three fighters interest me. Then I'll head down to the small guys to see how the lower weight classes are, Particularly career Marathon of Duran and Hagler (Hearns and Leonard don't interest me)
Heavyweight is my nostalgia division. Historically featherweight and bantamweight follow closely. All of them are incredibly rich really.
Their style just don't appeal to me. If I'm going to watch their fights, I'll just look up the highlights and watch that. With Hagler though, I am watching his debut all the way to when he fought Ray
Super Featherweight and below. Bantam is probably my favorite. 175 and above and I like it but don’t love it in contrast to the light weights
are you really a boxing fan? Most of us have favorites but generally we watch and appreciate all of the greats…even ones we don’t root for and/or like. These 2 guys (not personally a SRL fan) bring some of the highest talent level in boxing history. It would be a shame to watch just highlights…heck I never watch highlights, I wanna see the whole thing. How they set guys up and break them down, how they adapt etc. they are both worth checking out in depth
I don't mean highlights as in a highlight reel, what would I get from that? I mean highlights as in their biggest fights. I'm interested in Duran and his entire development as a fighter, that is what I get from seeing a fighter from the beginning of their career, to see their development. But as far as Tommy and Ray, I might just watch their biggest fights. If I have extra time and am bored some days I may squeeze one or two more fights in there, but there are just so many figthers I wanna do a career run on, Liston,Louis,Dempsey,Frazier,Robinson and even some modern day fighters. Ray and Hearns just are a bit lower on the list
How is that possible if Hagler had some crazy amount of fights with no film. If im not mistaken around 30 fights.
When Duran was fighting and even before when Ken Buchanan was champ, I loved the lightweights. In my day there were 8 divisions and 1 champ so all of the titles had luster. The middleweight division was the showcase division when I was young, but the Heavyweights always had that excitement. Sonny Liston was Champ when I was a kid, and he was feared but things have changed in perception for most these days. A lot was made of Sonnys prison time and so many more people are incarcerated in the USA these days and with much more than the few years Sonny did, also the Bully mentality has shown to have cracks. Still Sonny was a legitimate tough guy and for years I thought both fights were fixed instead of just thinking Ali was better and Sonny was not Superman, and his mind was more fragile than Ali's mind. I loved the divisions between 135 and heavyweight and still love the action when the big guys get in the ring, although so many fat and unmotivated sluggards in that division, reminds me of the lean fests of the 80's. The problem today is that fighters are not active and too many years go by for the best to fight the best, but we do have some who are willing to fight the best and unify despite the organizations wanting to keep control. This day I pay more attention to the heavyweights because the division has morphed into talented big men who for the most part want to fight. Still too much time wasted in a lot of the younger prospect who are too inactive and may miss their time to develop.
I have not checked his career yet, it is the same for Ali, a lot of his fights wasn't recorded either, mostly it is just Sonny Liston 1 and on through that is recorded, so that is what I meant,I'll try to watch their whole career but if the fight isn't available , I have to just skip to the next one
