Everyone obviously uses more than one, in fact, probably most of these, but which are the ones you use most?

    -Using footwork to control range
    -Parry/intercept the punch
-Keeping a tight guard, chin tucked in
-Using upper body movement in a "normal" boxers way
-Using upper body movement as in bobbing and weaving while coming forward
    -Dodging/slipping punches

Edit: this was supposed to be a multiple option voting poll, but i forgot to make it so....:dead

I always stress distance and I always parry their straight punches (jab/straight) and then step in to counter after.

I use most it depends. When on the ropes I would duck and weave. Straight up I would parry or slip. A mix is best instead of one style.

Do you like to work off the ropes and counter or did you mean that as in when you're forced there?

Using upper body movement in a "normal" boxers way, mostly. But it depends on who I spar really. A guy I spar quite often is a very come forward bob and weave type of fighter, and because he's very squared up and I have a sideways stance, my jab is considerably longer than his. In his case I prefer footwork to stay outside, and once every I defend my ground so he can't predict when I move or fight.

Something I learned the hard way is if you oppenent is shorter than you dont duck down or squat to their level...

The more I think about it the more I realize I like most defenses. A successful defense needs variation. If your opponent knows you're going to parry a jab, he'll feint and hook around it. If you always bob and weave, your opponent will time you and you will duck or weave or bob into something painful. If you always block he will flurry upstairs and hurt you downstairs. If he knows you are going to run, he'll call you a homosexual.

Mostly my footwork, as I have long reach. Lately I've been mixing it a bit up with all the options in the poll.

Block or parry in various ways, stepping forward immediatly after with a large volume of punches. At my best I have a very high punch output... i guess I'm a sort of agressive counter-puncher. I like slipping quite a lot too.

When Im lazy I just have a WinkyWright real tight type guard, but I just parry/slap punches away when im sharp. Ideally id like to be a great slipper like toney/whitaker, but either im not at that level yet or I dont got those type of reflexes

I think anyones would be their footwork and controlling range.. I can barely bnelieve BlackWater about upperbody movement while coming forward, if you have to its nice, but getting mashed by a hard straight blows ass when you are doing that...

Im about 5'7 130, and a southpaw.. I favor using my footwork, like Kolya said, the one that doesnt involve myself getting it.

Well to be honest I use all of those techniques, but I practice most using head movement and dipping down with my shoulder to duck shots.
