The Cotto win is NO forgone conclusion. And Cotto IS the lineal MW titlist. And he won't be fighting at any type of wieght seeming to give Canelo any edge. Cotto comes in at 166, Canelo 172/173. So Cotto could essentially have the fight made at 159/160, giving him a huge edge in speed, giving Cnaelo only a slight advantage in terms of endurance not having to boil off the 18 lbs, but still having to boil off 12, 13. Canelo is the rightful favorite, but Im not gonna give him the win just yet. Canelos best wins were contoversial decisions, ie Lara and Trout. I vote Kirkland, who had 14 weeks to boil off 45 lbs of fat to make wieght. Angulo has been shot. Hatton was shot and B level at his best. Mosely, shot for a couple yrs. Baldomir. Shot and B level when prime. ONly Trout and Lara were both prime and Champion level fighters. Trout has looked B level since that fight, and Lara, he never wins a fight cleanly against even B level comp. Theyre always close. So, we dont truly KNOW for a FACT that Canelo is ELITE. Cotto....we do. We just dont know if he's ELITE at 155-160. :think
he's elite, since the 155-160 division has only 2 fighters, Canelo and Cotto, just like Andre Ward is king of 172 :yep
Canelo doesn't have one clear top level win on his resume. Lara beat him close but clear, and the Trout fight could have gone either way (even tho Trout probably shouldn't be considered a top level win anyway). Lara is the real top dog at 154
How the hell can the TOP fighter at 154 be one who ran away from the OFFICIAL TOP fighter at 154 for 12 rounds? Trout dominated Cotto. Canelo is only 25, most fighters don't have a career defining fight so young. Your name is right. You Know Sheit About Boxing
The Baldomir and Kirkland KOs were the most fun to watch. Seeing Canelo outbox a southpaw like Trout was interesting. And the gritty performance against Lara was admirable.
