My mate is one of those chumps who think that the olden day fighters were just drunken windmillers with zero skills... despite having never watched an old fight in his life. This weekend I'm going to introduce him to some real old classic viewing, but considering he has the attention span of a horny goldfish I want to choose the best vids out there. I have a couple in mind, but I am far from a pre-1960 expert. Any of you guys have any particular favourites?
Usually any Kid Gavilan, Sugar Ray Robinson, even Kid Chocolate (1930's) film will do. Barney Ross: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrzbaeX4Z-E[/ame] Very old film of LW champ Willie Ritchie: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfBmJZ401Qg[/ame] Watch from 3:50 onwards.
Great input so far. Surely there must be many more to come Classic Forumers? Good call on Gavilan to GreatA, I love watching him fight.
Basilio putting a beating on Demarco (especially near the end). The quality is **** poor, unfortunately. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_cWl3YG73Y[/ame]
Defence, offence, timing, handspeed, footwork.... you name it... its the greatest featherweight in history.... Mr slick himself, the outstanding Willie Pep. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2a_wt60Wn9M[/ame]
If your just looking for something to prove your argument then the below highlight reel of robinson should do the trick, 5 minutes of close to perfect, varied combination punching with speed, power and accuracy [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQClNVCJIwQ&feature=related[/ame]
