Probably Nelson. Just because it's the best pure fight of the lot. Nice momentum shifts, close on the scorecards, dramatic final-round finish, great skill, great heart exhibited. It had it all.

The Lopez fights were good too, but too one-sided to be great fights. Ford and Cowdell were interesting because they allowed a glimpse into what might work against some tricky better opponent down the line.

The Ford fight was dramatic because it was so close, but you could see Sanchez decide at some point that he had to adjust and get aggressive.

Gomez informed Sal that he would send him out in a coffin, so naturally that one was sweet. But I like Lopez II. Lopez was highly motivated and knew that second time what a great fighter he was facing. He came out very strong. But Sanchez was still able to neutralize him despite the puny ring (16 feet I believe). Brilliant effort.

Yeah, people describe the second Lopez fight as a rerun of the first (I've said the same thing here) but really it was a little different, if only because Lopez did open with a lot more urgency in the second fight. It devolved for him into pretty much the same fight as it progressed, but opened with a bit more frenetic energy.

The Castillo fight is underrated, or at least not often mentioned.Excellent chessmatch.

You know, I've only ever seen that once, and that was about ten years ago now. I should rewatch and score it.

Although it's pretty one sided, and against one of Sanchez's lesser opponents, I really liked the performance he put on against Castanon. The way Sanchez picked him apart and accelerated at the end was pretty scary.

I'd say Sanchez-Nelson was the best fight that I've seen involving him, while the Cowdell, Ford, Castillo, and to a lesser extent Laporte fights are all pretty engrossing fights to watch; because they were all closely contested for a while before Sanchez put the pedal to the metal in the latter portion of each fight.

    Gomez.

Chava was a master on a mission, who profoundly made his country proud.

I love watching Gomez fight. He has a great, great fighter. But he was also a dirty mofo, routinely hitting guys when they were down. Sanchez's dismantling of him was sweet.

The Gomez fight...it's Sal's major statement blasting another master...and his two fights with Lopez...they were almost identical, kinda like the two Napoles-Cokes fights..and he showed poise, skill and mastery in doing away with a proud champion in Lopez and ushering in a new era.
