I don't have a favorite place for fights, but I noticed something (I wanted to ask that topic). That there are no more fights for the title of world heavyweight champion in cities (countries) such as: Kinshasa (Zaire), Manila (Philippines), Kingston (Jamaica), Caracas (Venezuela)...
I really like scoring fights and unless I can get something close to ringside seats it's hard to score a fight accurately. As I've always told my son, you really don't know who you think won the fight unless you score it. Anyway, the point of that digression is that while I like the atmosphere and excitement of the bigger venues the cost of ringside seats can sometimes be out of my range. In smaller venues I can hear the punches and see the sweat flying. It really feels like I'm there and a part of the event.
Had the privilege of being in a ringside seat in December 1997 at Madison Square Gardens for Hamed v Kelley.....nothing else has ever came close. All my others have been within the UK.....small hotel venue for Charlie Flynn's pro debut was a good atmosphere....Ricky Burns at Braehead Arena was ok.....Josh Taylor at the Hydro (both as a pro and also at the Commonwealth games) was fab and Prince Naseem at the SECC was decent despite the fight being over as a contest after 1 punch!!!
The few ones Ive been to have been in coliseums and stadiums. To me it's the same. But my favorite venue is my house!
In my case I have seen Wilfredo Gomez-Jose Luis Soto, Edwin Rosario-Jose Luis Ramirez I, Azumah Nelson-Wilfredo Gomez, Michael Carbajal-Josue Camacho and Kostya Tszyu-Sharmba Mitchell 2 in person, plus a few smaller cards in person too. That's important because I've seen everything fighter related: in one of the smaller fights as a little girl with grandpa, there was a fighter from the Dominican Republic battling it out. My grandpa started saying something racist, the word "doniniqui" as in "the Dominiqui is fighting"...so me not knowing at age 10 that this was a racist word, I started backing the Dominican fighter, and yelling "dale, Dominiqui!" (hit him, Dominiqui!") unbeknown to us, that boxer's family was sitting behind us. And, seeing as I was just a kid who was backing their family member, they had a ball with me. I looked behind and they were just laughing it up, later he came by, and I learned he was the old woman's son and the young lads sitting there were his siblings. LOL On the Carbajal fight, i was the only Puerto Rican at the Phoenix Suns coliseum that night and everyone else was pro-Carbajal, so outwardly backing my countryman was a no-no. Inside i was hoping for a Camacho win but outwardly I was pretending i was pro-Carbajal...it was the safest thing to do, just in case lol For Tszyu-Mitchell 2, I remember some Mitchell fans burned the Russian flag and were arrested.
I've never been to a live boxing event either, because I chaos and hate loud obnoxious annoying assholes distracting me from what's going on in the ring... because as a boxing fan, that's the only thing that matters to me. Now call me a casual, you annoying shitposting troll.
