I am curious as to how all of you feel about Bob Sheridan as an announcer? Do you think he delves too deeply into is own rhetoric? Or do you feel that he makes the fights more interesting with with his dialog? Do you find him to be technically knowledgeable? Or do you find that he doesn't have a great knowledge about all parts of the boxing game? In general, what is your opinion of the man and his announcing style? I am not asking you to answer my specific questions, I am just curious how you see him from an excitement and technical knowhow point of view. Any other comments about Bob Sheridan are welcome.
He makes the fights more exciting, even the slow boring ones. I dont really pay attention to what he says, just kind of hear him in the background screaming.
anyone who clearly loves the sport like he does is okay in my book. His call of the action is at times over the top. But, overall, i have no issues listening to him. He's not one to break down a fight, technically. But that's not the role of a blow by blow guy. I may be wrong, but it seems like sometimes he works solo. Not sure.
I do remember him calling for Trinidad to low blow Winky throughout their fight, but besides that fight I think he's been a great commentator. He loves the sport and travels all over the world to commentate. He's been doing it for decades so he obviously knows alot about the sport. And he shows excitement in every fight he does. What's not to love?
I think he great even though he must be blind sometimes + i've got him on tape working solo on the Chavez/Taylor 1 fight from 1990, he's calling every round for taylor but he's a real genuine old school radio jorno that gets you right in there:good
He's good, but he's owned by the sanctioning organizations and he blatantly sucks up to them and defends them at every opportunity, whether anyone's attacking them or not. He's Jose Suleiman's errand boy.
Check out the recent FOTY candidate Calderon v Segurra for the Colonel at his absolute best. He and Benny Ricardo make a great team and they certainly had me on my feet in my living room when I was watching that classic! A great call of a great fight!
This, and he can make a boring fight entertaining with his enthusiastic commentary. Oh, and he also mixes up names from time to time, like "Steve Arreola".
Great voice and delivery for broadcasting. He speaks fairly well to boot. Every other phrase is not "ya know" "ya know what I'm sayin".
I think Bob Sheridan The Colonel is a fantastic announcer. He always lends such excitement and energy to the fights. He makes good technical observations and describes the action in an exciting manner.
