What is your opinion of Bob Sheridan?

You forgot his favourite saying "he's a great kid" even if the boxer is 40 yo..lol

 

I've got mixed feelings and I haven't heard many of his commentaries tbh.
I like his style although generally I wish commentators would take the Don Dunphy approach, Sheridan can really add to the excitement. The problem is I've heard his commentary on a DKP broadcast where he was very clearly (blatantly in fact) walking the company line. This was Lewis Vs Holyfield II where he gave Holyfield almost every round and basically ignored almost everything Lewis did in the fight.

So...I'm tempted to like him but I know for a fact he's not an impartial type.

He's miles better than Jim Lampley though who is somehow the top commentator on American television despite being one of the two worst boxing commentators I've heard.

Philippines voice of international boxing = Bob Sheridan and/or Dave Bontempo


I grew up listening to his blow by blow commentary. I love it.

 

He is a fake both as a Colonel and as a boxing announcer.He is terrible and a shill for Don King and the WBC,among others.Put this fat **** out to pasture.:dead

Aa pretty hardcore boxing fan I could usually give a **** whose announcing a fight. They usually **** me off more then improve the experience. But I find the Kernal great for casual fans because he explains a lot of the little thinks that go on in a boxing fight. Like in the Haye Mormeck fight when Haye kept sliding under Mormecks lead hand and walking him back. The average guy just sees that and thinks that Haye is huging Mormeck for no reason but he at least took the time to explain that it was a smart move that took Mormeck's inside game out of play. He's also got a lot of enthusiasim for a fight and he never really gets too worked up about a bull**** descision or a bad call by a ref or fight doctor. So all and all if Boxing had more people like him annoucing the average fan might be more interested in watching a fight. Instead we shoot ourselves in the foot with these negative asses that just like to ***** about everything and call fighters overhyped if they don't meet some impossible imagine goal. His negatives are obviously that he tries to bull**** the viewrer into thinking a boaring fight is more entertaining then it is and a one-sided contest is a close fight.

All and all I'd rather hear a fight called by lampley or gus johnson but there are plenty of anouncers that could learn a thing or two from him.

 

Great announcer. Very positive person as well, if everybody on here was as positive on certain things like The Col. then this place would be far more enjoyable. As it is now this site is like bizzaro Bob Sheridan.

 

He's insane and doesn't bother to be accurate. Great character though. Fun.

 

Back in the day, you know you've made it in the big leagues, as an asian/Filipino boxer, if your fight is shown on live TV, with Col. Bob Sheridan as the live commentator (not the local, Filipino in-studio commentary)

Especially if as part of an undercard of a PPV that has a Budweiser logo on the canvas, with Steele, Cortez or Lane as ref, Michael Buffer as announcer and the fight is in Las Vegas.

 

He was very good in the 70s just listen to ali/foreman closed circuit telecast....way better than howard cossells abc call.....his call of foreman/norton closed circuit was great just as good as abc call by cossell.........but by late 70s bob sheridan sarted stating his opinion in the scorring and giving his scorecards........ The dude has way to many 10 to 10 rds(draw)..the one fight i couldnt stand his call was ken norton/larry holmes..(my copy is wicked and on dvd super mint closed circuit version i also have abc version mint 1 hr 45 min with cossell)...but sheridan gave to many 10 to 10 rds in which i thought larry won...anyway sheridan thinks norton won and i do not/abc call with cossell and referreee urther mercante sr....great call........................bob sheridans call of foreman/young is just as good as cossells...........worst call i think by7 bob sheridan is tyson/douglas....tysons getting his ass kicked and sheridan keeps saying its a matter of time till tyson gets him....horrible call..................tyson/ruddock 1 i have showtime and sheridan calls ...........sheridan sucks.........showtime kicked his ass.....anyway hes ok...but he aint great....like cossell/lampley/dunphy

 

Q: How do you feel about Bob Sheridan and his announcing style?

A: Somewhere in between these two...

He is the best; he knows what he is talking about and he makes things exciting.

He is pretty good; but I don't think he is the best, just good.
