Yeah, I agree, but there's also the element that PDL never really sat down on his shots - a stiff jab and lateral movement gave Broner all sorts of problems. And Ricky's got an excellent jab, plus I think he can bang pretty hard to the body because his technique's so tight. Leverage and a soft target - I can see him getting that through Broner's defence quite regularly if Adrien tries to walk him down. It's an interesting bout - in my eyes Broner has a lot more to prove than Burns.
As for Burns power we`ll have to see if what Burns said is true about him feeling stronger, but yes its Burns better movement and jab and pot shotting vs Broners pressure
A very good fighter, but the jury is still out for now. I don't think we'll see what he's truly made of until he fights at 140.
He's the truth. He's the most skilled at 135-140 already, and still learning. In 3 years he'll be P4P #1
Going off the last paragraph do you think that Ricky Burns and Amir Khan would beat him. Their jabs are their best punches and both are quick; of the things you listed both have at least two of the characteristics... One thing should be noted: the wins against Perez and Escobedo are, for varying reasons shockingly shite 'world title' fights that he shouldn't really be proud about. They should never be the basis of any supposed top 5 lb4lb-er. :-(
dft I appreciate your breakdown of Broner, because its actually pretty accurate all things considered! For me it was the way he dismantled De Marco that caught my eye, it was the precise nature of his power punching and hand speed to boot, yes your right he is rooted, therefore if somebody can pop him and move off laterally he may just turn out to be a flat footed puncher, time will tell, his power looks real and his punch placement looks pretty good too, right at this moment in time he looks like a pretty effective puncher IMO Ill re quote myself "how far can he go? I'm not sure" .................
Ricky will give him a tricky fight early on, but I think once Broner figures him out he'll be able to counter the Rickster & walk him down. Burns is a touch too offensively simplistic to keep Broner guessing. Khan is still too defensively negligent, his speed would be a problem in the opening rounds but I cant see him not getting caught & hurt by Broner. Abril has that lovely blend of skill & craftyness, he can box well from range & is comfortable in the pocket. Such a shame that nobody wants to fight him. Agreed, but the hype machine behind Broner will get him credit beyond his achievements.
1. As much as I initially disliked him, I have to admit he's gone on to become better than what I thought he would be. Talented, skilled and smart enough to become a legit P4P contender. Won't be as good as he and his fans claim him to be, but he'll be good enough to admire and respect. 2. He'll beat anyone at 135. As for 140, I see him losing to Matthysse, Rios and most other big, durable guys that he'll be disadvantaged against in size. Khan, depending on which version turns up, would also beat him I reckon. 3. Partially answered in the first point. He'll dominate 135, but GBP will need to match him carefully at 140-147 if they want to engineer his climb up the P4P rankings. But what's made me warm to him the most in recent months, is probably his personality. Most will hate it, I know. But unlike Mayweather -- who's fake and tries way too hard -- he's a naturally witty guy (forward to 1:10 in the below vid). He'll be someone I'll enjoy watching providing the ******eness of his ***** fans are kept to a minimum. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8ICwixUjrk[/ame]
I think some people's dislike of him clouds their judgement slightly. I don't think he is the second coming and future p4p no.1 as some do, nor do I think he's a "hypejob". He clearly has some skills and at 135 now that puts him right in the mix. I think he'd certainly beat Abril and think he has a strong chance against both Vasquez and Burns, though I still slightly favour the other 2 if them fights were to happen. He's still young as well and has plenty of time to develop. He's nowhere near the finished article and when he matures and grows into other divisions, there are plenty of potentially big fights for him there at 140 or 147. I'm not a fan of this Rees fight greatly and think he will win easily but I'm hoping afterwards he looks for unification fights before moving up to 140.
1.I think he has a lot of potential, and as there's very few potential superstars coming through, his ability will probably be exaggerated through no fault of his own. He's a genuinely exciting prospect though. 2.Much as it pains me to say it,I think he could get past Ricky(although I expect Ricky to do a lot better than many expect) and if he bides his time,140 could be where we see the best of him. 3.I think he can do very well but I also think there's a good chance he could come unstuck if he keeps believing his own hype.I also think it's worth noting that his win over DeMarco was no better than Burns' over Martinez.I also find it slightly annoying that he's fawning over Floyd and saying he'll never fight him because, even though by the time he's ready for such a challenge Floyd will probably be long gone,it comes across as slightly pathetic to me that he says (and I'm paraphrasing) "I'll fight and beat anyone up to 147 except my hero Floyd" But again,it's good that there's a genuine star in the making.I just wish so many of his fans didn't have this pathological hate for Ricky Burns.
The bloke is super confident what can i say... I hate the ****er and i hate to admit he is very good boxer!
I think has a far more entertaining/endearing personality. Mayweather is so fake and forced, he's embarassing to watch most of the time. Broner's more natural. In-ring talents are a completely different story, though. But still, Broner himself is no joke.
I dont think Broners natural, he try's to be funny, he shouldnt because its embarrassing. A bit like when Hatton thaught he could do stand up There's a youtube vid kicking about of Broner and Floyd flaunting wads of cash, Broner turns to the camera and randomly say's....''he's Mayweather im Febuaweather!'' :huh :-( I think as a fighter he's exiting but i dont think he's the next best thing. Right now someone like Marquez would murder him.
